On April 29, two convoys transporting logistic supplies and equipment for the US-led coalition in Iraq came under attack.
The first convoy was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) as it was passing in the district of Yusufiya near the capital, Baghdad. A new group calling itself the al-Sabiqun Battalion claimed responsibility for the attack.
The second convoy was targeted with IED in an unpacified part of the western province of al-Anbar. The perpetrators are yet to be identified.
No casualties were reported as a result of the two attacks, which were likely meant to inflict material losses on US forces.
Pro-Iranian groups in Iraqi have been hunting down US-led coalition supply convoys for over a year now. On April 27 only, four convoys were attacked in the provinces of al-Diwaniyah, al-Anbar, Basrah and Dhi Qar.
These attacks are meant to push US forces out of the country as a response to the assassination of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Deputy-Commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units, and Commander of Iran’s Quds Force, Qassim Soleimani.
So far, the US-led coalition has failed to put an end to these attacks. Despite this, Washington does not appear to be planning to pull its troops out from Iraq anytime soon.

Sadly, the drivers are impoverished Iraqis who need to feed their families. I suspect that those placing IED’s might be warning them to leave their cabs. I don’t know.
