On August 12, the Taliban finally took over Herat, Afghanistan’s largest city, according to the France-Press Agency (AFP).
An unnamed Afghan security official told the agency that government forces and administration officials had retreated from the northwestern city.
Afghan sources shared on social media several videos showing Taliban fighters at the center of Herat and near the city’s main Police Headquarters. One of the videos shows dozens of prisoners who were released from Herat prison by Taliban fighters.

Nearly a week ago, the Afghan army, security forces and popular resistance, led by former warlord “Lion of Herat” Mohammad Ismail Khan, repelled a large offensive by the Taliban on Herat. The group didn’t back down for too long, however.
The Taliban’s successful attack on Herat came a few hours after a similar push in the southeastern province of Ghazni. The group’s fighters captured the province’s capital, Ghazni city, which is located just 150 km away from Kabul.
Herat was the tenth provincial capital the Taliban have seized in a week. The group will likely develop its attacks even further in the upcoming few days. Afghan government forces appear to be hopeless without direct military support from the US.
So what happened to the legendary “Lion of Herat”?

Actually, both Iran and Russia withheld support as they now have relatively good relations with the Taliban. The current Qods Force commander General Ghaani is very astute and better strategic thinker than the legendary soldier diplomat Soleimani. General Ghaani speaks fluent Pashto and spend more than decade as a junior officer in Afghanistan, in that time he developed close ties with Pashtun resistance groups.
Ghaani may be astute, but Soleimani built the entire axis of resistance at a grassroots level through sheer force of personality and tact. He was a proven tactician and amazing strategist.
Fair assessment. However Soleimani underestimated the evil capability of the Americans. Ghaani being a field operative has no such illusions. Soleimani was a soldier diplomat and was instrumental in the Russian and Iranian alliance in Syria which unlike the US failure has stood the test of time and not a single SAA company has even defected, unlike Afghanistan where whole divisions of “US and NATO trained” forces have collapsed. You are correct, leadership is the ultimate harbinger of victory and success. America is corrupt top down and picks its “allies” with the same perversion.

As I have stated earlier, the Taliban .21 are more inclusive and their success in quickly taking over the non-Pashtun Northwest demonstrates relatively high level of support from the diverse population. The same outcome is now expected in Kabul where half the ANA forces have already defected. The US and NATO are urgently sending forces to evacuate their embassies . This is very much like the fall of Saigon and another shameful episode of US abandoning thousands of collaborators and traitors to their fate. After this US defeat who in their right mind would ever cooperate with an unreliable defeated failed state like US.

That is correct, the corrupt ANA has not put up a determined fight in any city so far and I expect Kabul to fall very easily as most of the Pashtuns will defect with their weapons. That is the primary reason that US, UK and other NATO vassals are removing all their “diplomats” and mercenaries from Kabul as the airport on the city outskirts is the most vulnerable to rocket fire and will be shut down. The US military has written a new chapter in incompetence and cowardice.

Other reports indicate that as invading Taliban descend on a target city, sleeper cells are activated inside the city, surrounding the local ANA forces – As I said, resistance is futile, Now taliban have to worry about 3000 US troops returning (actually 10 000 + Dogs of War).
