Total 251 US bombs and missiles were dropped in Afghanistan during January and February this year.
According to a report, The US has increased its aerial bombing campaign in Afghanistan against ISIS terrorists.
The New York Times reported by citing Air Force data that US unmanned drones and warplanes increased airstrikes three times in January and February than last year. The report also said that total 251 bombs and missiles were dropped in Afghanistan during these two months.
Only when the Taliban pose a direct threat to US forces or Afghan troops, the US commanders can order airstrikes under present rules of engagement. However, the US military has been given more scope in targeting ISIS terrorists in Afghanistan.
General John Campbell, who commanded American forces in Afghanistan until earlier this month, asked the White House to give him similar authority to strike the Taliban.
“So the only thing I can affect is my authority to strike different groups and my authority to provide different enablers to the Afghans,” he said in a recent interview with the Washington Post.
On Friday, the US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said that President Obama told him and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford that he wanted to see ISIS defeated by the end of his term in office.
However, the Taliban control more territory than at any point since 2001. Taliban also took a provincial capital, Kunduz, and are threatening another, Lashkar Gah in Helmand.
Since the war on terror began 14 years ago by the US and its allies, Afghanistan has been crippled by insecurity and terrorism which also has been taking numerous civilian lives.
