The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced on September 26 that its warplanes had carried out a new airstrike on ISIS cells in southwestern Libya in coordination with the Government of National Accord (GNA).
In its official statement, the AFRICOM claimed that seventeen fighters of the terrorist group were killed in the airstrike.
“This ongoing campaign against ISIS-Libya demonstrates that U.S. Africa Command persistently targets terrorist networks that seek to harm innocent Libyans,” said U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Heidi Berg, director of intelligence, U.S. Africa Command. “We will continue to pursue ISIS-Libya and other terrorists in the region, denying them safe haven to coordinate and plan operations in Libya.”
The AFRICOM didn’t reveal the exact location where the airstrike took place. However, it claimed that no civilians were killed or injured as a result.
This was the third such attack this month. On September 20, at least eight ISIS terrorists were killed in a U.S. airstrike that targeted the southwestern town of Murzuq. Eleven other terrorists were killed in the same area on September 25.
