Early on April 29, three civilians were wounded when a series of Israeli strikes hit the outskirts of the Syrian city of Homs.
Citing a military official, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said that a civilian fuel station caught fire as a result of the strike. A number of fuel tankers and trucks were also burned.
“At around 00:50 [21:50 GMT]…the Israeli enemy carried out an air attack with a number of missiles, from the direction of north Lebanon, targeting several positions in the outskirts of the city of Homs,” SANA reported.
The state-run news agency added that Syrian air defenses intercepted some of the Israeli missiles. Video footage that surfaced online after the attack showed explosions and large fires in the outskirts of Homs city.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based monitoring group, said in a report that “Israeli missiles destroyed a munitions depot belonging to Lebanon’s Hezbollah at the Dabaa military airport” in the southern countryside of Homs. These claims are yet to be verified.
Iranian military personnel and fighters from Hezbollah are known to be stationed at al-Dabaa, which was hit by Israeli strikes on April 2.
During more than a decade of civil war in Syria, Israel has launched hundreds of strikes against the country. Most of the strikes targeted positions of the Syrian Arab Army as well as positions of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its affiliates, like Hezbollah.
The strikes were a part of an Israeli covert military campaign, known as “the war between wars,” which is meant to prevent Iran from establishing a lasting presence in Syria.

Sayyid Nasrallah has intimated in his last speach, that kind of retaliation might be forthcoming. Nothing yet though. It’s possible they want the domestic crisis in Israel play fully out first. A war might help Netanyahu short term. It remains to be seen if the supposed threat and worry is real. Nasrallah are spoke of a deterrent. If there is one, it’s not fully effective. So far, the “axis of resistance” in Syria and Lebanon is clearly on the receiving end.
