June 10th marked a day of loss for the al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is carrying out a shelling operation on Jabal al-Zawiya in the southern Idlib countryside. Russian support is carrying out airstrikes.
Abu Khaled al-Shami, the official spokesman for HTS was killed in the town of Ablin.
As a result of today’s pinpoint strike, in addition to Abu Khaled al-Shami, another high-ranking member of the HTS terrorist group, Abu Musab al-Khomis, was liquidated. He was in charge of coordinating the HTS cooperation with the media.
The commander of the internal security in HTS Moataz al-Nasser was also killed.
7 other unnamed militants were also eliminated.

A day before, a Russian service member was killed and three others were wounded in a landmine blast in northeastern Syria. A large-scale operation of the SAA and Russian forces seems to be a response to the death of a Russian soldier, as well as frequent ceasefire violations by HTS and other militant groups in Idlib.
In total, more than 20 air strikes were inflicted on the settlements of Fatira, Ain-Lapuz, Muzapa, Maapata, Khaluba and Majdaliya in the Jabal al-Zawiya region in the south of the Syrian province of Idlib.

In response, the Turkish Armed Forces started heavy shelling on SAA positions in the city of Saraqib in eastern Idlib. Notably, Russian military personnel is also present where the Turkish shelling is hitting.

A “large-scale” response is expected by HTS against the SAA.
