Early on December 23, three Israeli police officers were wounding after being rammed by a vehicle in an alleged attack in Kafr Qasim, an Arab city located to the east of Tel Aviv.
The Israeli Police said that a Palestinian man, Naim Badir, called police over to a parking area of a building, claiming there had been a violent incident before pulling out a makeshift “Carlo” submachine gun and attempting to open fire. He then fled into the building after his gun had apparently jammed.
Badir went on to hurl Molotov cocktails at a police vehicles from the roof of the building. He then got into his car and rammed it into the officers, lightly wounding three of them. The officers returned fire, killing him on the spot.
Central District Commander Avi Bitton said that what happened was a “ terror attack planned days earlier.” However, Badir’s family strongly denied the incident was an attack and accused police of “murdering our son in cold blood.”

Following the incident, the Israeli Police dispatched reinforcements to Kafr Qasim, including special forces units, and were searching for additional suspects.
The incident came amid high tensions and repeated clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinians. Just a day earlier, a member of the Palestinian Hamas Movement was killed by Israeli troops in the city of Nablus.
