An Israeli strike targeted a residential building in the Kafr Sousa neighborhood in Syria’s capital Damascus on February 21, Syrian state media reported.

The neighborhood, which is located in the southwestern part of Damascus, hosts a number of residential buildings, schools and Iranian cultural centers and lies right next to a large, heavily-guarded complex used by Syrian security agencies.

The official Syrian Arab News Agency said an “Israeli attack” had targeted a residential building in Kaf Sousa. It published photos showing char on one side of the multi-story building with heavy damage to one of the apartments.

Later, state TV reported that at least three people were killed in the Israeli strike. One of the victims was reportedly a street cleaner.

Israel has significantly escalated its attacks on Syria since the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip, targeting mainly sites and personnel of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated forces.

Two officers of the IRGC were killed in the town of Set Zaynab in southern Damascus on December 2 in a strike that was blamed on Israel. Another attack that targeted the town on December 25 killed Quds Force senior commander Brigade General Seyed Razi Mousavi. Israel was also held responsible by both Iran and Syria.

Later on January 20, five IRGC officers, including the commander of the guards’ intelligence in Syria, were killed when strikes allegedly carried out by Israel targeted the al-Mazzeh Western Villas neighborhood in Damascus.

Another alleged Israeli strike that hit Set Zaynab on February 2 claimed the life of an IRGC advisor who was identified as Saeed Alidadi.

The strike on Kafr Sousa may have targeted personnel of the IRGC, or commanders from affiliated forces, like Lebanon’s Hezbollah, the Palestinian Hamas Movement and the Islamic Jihad.

the thugs will continue with their aggression as long as syria stays dormant; after the nnumerous israeli incursions one would assume that the syrians would have acted either directly or indirectly.
