Three Russian Nuclear Subs Simultaneously Surface From Under Arctic Ice For First Time In History (Video)

Three Russian nuclear-powered submarines simultaneously surfaced from under the ice at a distance of up to 300 meters from each other for the first time in history during Arctic drills, Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on March 26.

“As part of the Arctic expedition, three nuclear-powered submarines surfaced from under the ice in a limited space with a radius of 300 meters for the first time in the history of the Russian Navy,” he said.

The development is a part of the comprehensive Arctic expedition Umka-2021. According to the admiral, the expedition is underway in the area of the Franz Josef Land archipelago, the Alexandra Land Island and the adjacent waters with the participation of the Russian Geographical Society.

“For the first time, a set of combat training, scientific research and practical diverse measures in underway under the single design and plan in subpolar regions,” he said.

The expedition involves over 600 service members and civil personnel and about 200 pieces of weapons, military and special equipment.

Gotta love Russia. They lay the national flag on the Arctic Sea Bed, whilst collecting ground samples. To provide DNA to support their territorial claim. Then they play in the snow, with the three submarines. How many NATO member nations could do the same? France and the UK, that would take 75% of their deterrent force, to achieve the same. The US, well how old are their old ballistic submarines and how many attack submarines have they got in working order?

So whilst NATO is encircling Russia, with Russia ignoring the needy and demanding offensive organisation, Russia carries on as normal, with some fun time in the Arctic. Nice one.

The “newest” American SSBN is a quarter of a century old. They have plans to build a new class of them, the “Columbia” class but materials for such have only just now began being collected. It’ll be 2030 before the first Columbia is commissioned and by then Russia will have ten 21st century SSBN’s already on patrol, seven of them 955A’s. Russia is entering a period of unprecedented strategic superiority over the United States.

Lone Ranger

Amen.

Ulzim

do not forget China, NK and Iran.

Ricky Miller

Strongly disagree. North Korean Ballistic Missile submarines are diesel, have just three missiles aboard, and are quite noisy. A farside Pacific Ocean Patrol would have difficulty breaking through the first and second island chain undetected and unfollowed and would have enormous problems in logistics and fuel endurance. I’m not saying they’ve never done a prototype cruise or two, but not in any militarily useful way. Iran is researching and perhaps constructing better boats for longer voyages, but there is little evidence that these submarines are missile submarines, or that they are anywhere close to launching. And no evidence exists at all yet to suggest that there would be an Iranian atomic payload or SLBM to mate with such a submarine. China’s SSBN’s do exist, but do not yet operate in regular deterrence patrols. However, the PLAN are soon to commission a new SSBN class designed to be capable of standard and militarily significant deterrence patrols, no close operation to the USA coast needed or wise, though.

Ulzim

NK has about 5,000-6,000 tons subs with 6 launchers armed with SLBMs. That is well known here in south korea. Considering NK and Iran’ close relationship in research and development, Iran is not far behind if not already. An Iranian general even mentioned something to the effect that Iran could develop nuclear subs in the future. That means they are already developing it.

HiaNd

It is NOT possible to put 6 SLBM’s on 5,000-6,000 tons conventional subs! You comments are unsubstituted rubbish !!!

Ulzim

NK also possesses nuke subs. It doesn’t have to be nuke subs over 10000 tons to carry SLBMs. Not many people anticipated what Iran did to the US bases in retaliation for the US assassination of General Soleimani. Sure that was a surprise to a lot of people. Sub patrolling doesn’t mean the subs are moving all the time along the US coast and it could also mean sitting on the bed for a long period of time. It also could mean sending subs to the US coast at the height of tension to let the US know subs are there as NK did during the height of tension in seas off the west coast of Korea closer to NK in 2010. Here is a video of NK launching a SLBM off California.

HiaNd

Just pile of rubbish. China doesn’t do patrols on US coast let alone NK. You are clown. Don’t waste my time !

Ulzim

Read the post above again to find out what patrolling means.

HiaNd

Iran has only managed to start producing their version of MIDGET subs that is produced and exported to them by N.Korea. Those subs are copy of old Yugoslav midget subs used in Adriatic sea. So that Iranian version of midget sub is the only one they have started to produce. Iran is still very far from producing any kind of advanced conventional sub, let alone nuke sub. N. Korea is more tech advanced compering to Iran.

HiaNd

NK subs are NOT patrolling US coasts. Not even China does that ! Only Russia does that and not on regular bases !

Ulzim

Great respect for Russia, but they are not number 1 all the time. Russia needs to keep 10000 nukes for as long as it exists because there will be some territorial issues with NK, China and Japan once US is gone. NK showed Russians how to deal with US in 2013 when NK and US got into a chicken game where NK almost pushed the button.

HiaNd

You are all so “mighty”, but the only reason why your countries are not nuked is only RUSSIA ! N.K represents threat only to South Korea and Japan who gave VETO on all US military actions! Go away, sick and tired of all these minuscule “powers” pretending to be so “mighty”!

Ulzim

Hey man, Time has changed. All the Russian territories in far east was stolen and a large chunk of the land once belong to Korea and China.

These are the same Russians that once tried to create Israel in Manchuria and settled for a Russian oblast for Jews. We dodged the bullet.

Ulzim

One more thing: When Russians voluntarily dissolved the now defunct soviet union (How the fck a country voluntarily dissolves their own country lol), a lot of Russian and east German scientists came to NK (you remember Makeyev Design Bureau?).

AM Hants

Don’t forget, the US New Build programme, will have delays, so might not get the Columbia Class submarines in active service till at least 2040 haha.

Russia has around 60 submarines, and variety of classes and the US is only just ahead, but, most are aged and only two classes, with one updated to carrying precision control missiles. No doubt when the Columbia enters active service, Russia will have another new class of ballistic in the water and again all singing and dancing. Just gotta love Russia.

HiaNd

“Russia will have another new class of ballistic” That new class is known as “Husky” or “Project 545 Laika Class” Next Generation submarine of Russia. Laika will replace both strategic and attack subs. Only 5th generation sub in the world at the moment. They already have finished design phase. https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z1wn4Pdqfvk/Xh8OWon4IJI/AAAAAAABKOQ/RyZCRV71j6g5CZ9g19b9p4QvZ3aea0jqQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/960×0.jpg

Ricky Miller

An even bigger problem is the missiles to mate with the Columbia subs. As in the USA doesn’t have one. They have older SLBM’s but these missiles and payload vehicles are not designed to evade missile defenses, whereas Russia’s Bulava missiles are. In practice, with the advent of the A-235 and S-500, this means that Russia by 2030 might achieve both serious sword and shield advantages. It’s literally a story of the Tortoise and the Hare, America was supposed to surge ahead into “full spectrum dominance” but faltered, spending several trillion dollars on neo-colonial occupations. Meanwhile, Russia slow-grew it’s capabilities into superiority.

AM Hants

Also, the UK, new deterrent, the Dreadnought Class, will be coming out the same time as the US Columbia Class and reliant on the same missiles. Are the French hoping to replace their deterrent submarines around the same time? So that will mean NATO will be decades behind Russia’s state of the art submarines, missiles and hypersonic technology. Wonder when the penny will drop, as NATO keeps trying to encircle Russia?

Ricky Miller

France is a little ahead of the game with a new SSBN, but is also the least likely state to join in marching lockstep with the USA in a program of using nuclear policy posture in a way to threaten Russia. If Russia did a first strike on the USA, the U.K. is sure to strike back. France, would not unless directly attacked. Makes one wonder why the British nuclear security doctrine and policy is employed not in the security interests of the British public but instead in a way that supports America’s need to lean forward out into the living and strategic space of others.

AM Hants

We lease from the US, so basically they control the deterrent and it can only be used with their permission.

Three Corporations Rule The World.

City of London – Finance Washington DC – Military The Vatican – Spirituality.

All three are squatters in host nations, but, have their own laws and taxes, being completely independent of host nation and all still rule in the old Roman Empire way. Funny how our Governments take orders from the squatters, as they ignore the electorate.

SnowCatzor

America will probably dissolve into smaller states by 2030 at the rate it’s going. So Russia will again have the most powerful underwater fleet by then.

Trying to impress an American by doing the same thing we have done in a 100 years. But the answer is still no! You cannot be equal partners!!

Dick Von Dast'Ard

I think the Russians would rather have an equal partnership in lunar and space exploration with their Chinese partners now, (in a domain where growth in GDP is to be had) than attempting to be part of an unequal partnership with the USA.

Иван

I’m impressed. Next time they will surface and open missile bays.

After that, we will have a nice day.

Two MiG-31 jets make first-ever flight over North Pole NOVO-OGARYOVO, March 26. /TASS/. Two MiG-31 fighter jets have for the first time in the history of Russia’s Navy have flown over the North Pole and were refueled on the way, the Navy’s commander-in-chief, Nikolai Yevmenov, told President Putin.

“Within the framework of an Arctic expedition for the first time ever in the history of Russia’s Navy a pair of MiG-31 jets performed a flight over the North Pole and were refueled in midair,” Yevmenov said.

Earlier, the Pacific Fleet’s commander, Admiral Sergey Avakyants, said that groups of long-range interceptors MiG-31 had entered duty in the Arctic.

this is a nuclear attack warning to USA, it means the flight time of missiles will be only 15 min!

Russia and Egypt’s Al-Sisi are close friends and have done joint exercises in the past. Egypt could allow Russia to unblock the Suez canal using methods that quickly unstuck the container ship, even if it means a total loss of cargo, the losses tallying up from the daily blockage are in the billions.

Rumor (at this point) has it that Russia has called this blockage an act of war. It comes rather soon on the heels of the Russian sub Rostov-On-Don ‘disappearing’ in the Mediterranean nearby.

Who benefits from this, in your opinion?

SOF

JS said the US gains an advantage over Russia and China. Geographically its obvious because US relies on the Panama canal. Eurasia, Africa and the Middle East, on the other hand relies on the Suez Canal.

I heard though Panama canal is owned by the Chinese, maybe blocking that as a revenge might be interesting.
