On August 1, a supply convoy of the US-led coalition came under attack as it was passing in the southern Iraqi province of al-Diwaniyah.

The Sabereen News revealed that the convoy was targeted with a number of explosively formed penetrator (EFP) improvised explosive devices.

According to the Telegram channel, the convoy, which was heading to Ain al-Assad Air Base in the western province of al-Anbar, was carrying Humvee armored vehicles as well as “sensitive weapons”.

Less than two hours after the attack, two other supply convoys of the US-led coalition were targeted near the city of Hillah in the central province of Babylon.

The attacks were most likely carried out by pro-Iranian groups, who stepped up their operations against US forces in Iraq this week.

On July 29, four supply convoys were attacked in Babylon, al-Diwaniyah and the province of Dhi Qar. On July 30, another convoy came under attack in Babylon. A pro-Iranian group calling itself Saryat Qasim al-Jabbarin [The Breaker of Titans Company] claimed responsibility for all five attacks.

The US recent attempt to rebrand its military presence in Iraq as a “training mission” provoked pro-Iranian groups, who are reportedly planning to begin direct attacks on American troops.
