As I have stated before, the wackiest aspect of the Holodomor is its religious significance in Canada among those descended from Galicians, who were in no way affected by the Ukrainian famine . Collectivization of agriculture, weather conditions, sabotage, and other factors caused the famines, but again, no evidence of any kind exists to indicate that the Ukrainian famine was planned and implemented as a state policy.
I thought Stalin took the grain because of communist policies. Took care of his friends. Then gave it to be distributed to various heads of state. The process would continue from there. A lot of people starved all over the USSR in that time. The Dust Bowl in North America was at the same time.
Multiple communist policies contributed to the famine conditions, as did the weather and deliberate sabotage by people who rejected collectivization. Millions of Soviet citizens had been moved into the cities to provide a work-force for the vast and rapid industrialization of the Soviet Union. These millions had to be fed. And the system was not up to the task. But there had been many famines in those regions prior to the Reds and there were none ever again after collectivization. Or we can accept your notion that Stalin and his friends consumed all the grain. I generally prefer not to rely on Hearst newspaper accounts nor on MI6 assets for my historical documents.
