US President Donald Trump has offered to mediate the ongoing Middle Eastern crisis over Qatar.
“In a phone call Wednesday with Qatar’s ruling emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Trump said he wanted to help Qatar and its Arab neighbors resolve the row that has upended any sense of Gulf unity, suggesting a possible White House summit among leaders. Though Trump again said countries must eliminate funding streams for terror groups, the White House said he focused on the need for the region’s various U.S. allies to stick together.
Blockaded by its neighbors by land and sea, Qatar is eager for Trump’s help. Qatar’s U.S. ambassador, Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani, told The Associated Press his country is counting on Washington to persuade Saudi Arabia and others to back down.
“We have great confidence in the president’s ability to calm this crisis and to resolve it,” Al Thani said in an interview.
Trump’s bid to fashion himself as a neutral arbiter among Arab governments departed from his stance only a day earlier, when he left little doubt about where he felt the fault rested,” the AP article reads.
Earlier this week, Trump supported the Saudi-led block actions against Qatar in a Twitter storm. Thus, Washington fueled the crisis with a clear aim to gain revenue mediating it later.
Meanhile, it looks that Qatar is not very sutisfied with the US mediation in the crisis. Doha clearly understands that the situation is very shaky.
Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani will Visit Moscow on Saturday where he will hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the Russian state-run news agency RIA Novosti reported citing a source in the foreign ministry.
The Qatari foreign minister’s visit to Moscow may indicate that the country is going to follow a Turkey-style approach in its actions in the Middle East and will boost ties with the Russia-oriented block.
Bloody Americans create these crises and then offer to mediate – what a bunch of hypocrites! And they think we don’t see any of their underhanded games? Payback will be very expensive.
How embarrassing! Trump invited the Saudis and Qataris to Washington so he could help ‘negotiate’ a capitulation by Qatar. So what does Qatar do? Ignore Trump and instead heads to Moscow to talk to Lavrov! My how times have changed.
What happens with Qatar almost pales in comparison to what just happened here: given a choice between the U.S. and Russia to protect them, Qatar chooses Russia. There are 11,000 U.S. troops in Qatar, mostly at the Al Udeid Air Base. By this time next year, the U.S. could be gone and Russia might be the tenant military unit on the $1.5 billion Al Udeid base. Sorry, CENTCOM – you’re no protection, you’re a liability. Here’s your eviction notice. Have all your stuff out by the end of the month because the Russians will be moving in.
I hope Trump learns a few more words. Its ‘ Good, Bad ,Terrible ,Great,Fantastic, Huge etc do not really cut the mustard in diplomatic negotiations :)
And don’t forget….”very powerful”
Please forgive my ignorance :)
Wouldn’t Trumpie say “most powerfullest”?
Yeah…. That reminds me….. remember when US dropped those “59” tomahawks on that chemical weapons pounding Syria air base? Trump gave a short press interview announcing it…
An’ he was so serious man, positively subdued and he didn’t use a single one of his silly superlatives – almost like … he’d was being forced and he didn’t like it. AND he used a teleprompter! You can see he’s reading.
It was all “beautiful babies,” “brutal dictator” and “we say so so it’s proved” but no “It was beautiful, Man! You shoulda seen our magnificent tomahawks flying and pounding that ghastly brutal dictator!”and “He won’t be doing that again in a hurry I can tell you!” etc etc…
A very unTrump Trump. That was the moment, I think, when he turned from Candidate Trump to President Obama – I mean Trump.
Spend $100m to destroy $5m worth of planes that were replaced in 2 weeks, killing it!
Completely! But my point is – I don’t think Trump had an option – I think he was forced into that about turn.
It should concern Americans – WHO forces their president. Their last 2 presidents – BOTH were elected on promises to withdraw America from foreign wars – & BOTH increased those wars drastically. …If I was American, I’d be VERY concerned about that.
I know their democracy is laughable these days – but is it actually a democracy? They go to the polls sure – but so does North Korea.
Seems to me, in North Korea the face is guaranteed – in America the outcome regardless of the face, is guaranteed.
Kang or Kodos…
What?
It was an satirical episode of the Simpsons from long ago when the aliens Kang and Kodos ran for POTUS stating all the way that there really wasn’t a choice. Different masks same thing really for both candidates.
Aaah… thank you. Yes. :-))
Especially when about half of the cruise missiles failed to hit the target and the airfield was operational within 24 hours :)
Mind, you, the U.S. block is, basically, a racketeering mafia.
And Qatar is sitting on a 700 billion dollar trust fund , wonder whats up for grabs .
and russia will be blamed by covering of terrorists. do not forget, qatar IS terrorists paying country!!! volodya is not studpido, cretino, bastardo to make your move :DDDD
“By this time next year, the U.S. could be gone and Russia might be the tenant military unit on the $1.5 billion Al Udeid base.” —————– Uhm …. do you think the Americans would leave just because they were told to? …. Cuba’s been trying to get them out of Guantanamo for years.
You have a point – we’re ready to start WW III over a goat farm in Al Tanf. American presence has become the equivalent of herpes. [sigh…]
American foreign policy really went to hell after World War 2.
George Washington would just be shaking his head commenting on what a bunch of dumfucks we have in government.
To this day, I lament Ron Paul never got elected as President.
Qatar is going to Moscow. The US has yet again, been striking out at the Syrian Forces. Is this the war that NATO and the US having been begging for? Has it started?
Rich man or woman are not good leaders example of fat fuck of USA and mother of rapefugees Merkel.
merkel is not rich
But she is a “fat duck” , and a traitor to the German people .
look, i do not like merkel. but i respect the choice of germans. also mow will be chosen bay most of citizens. their private thing. i respect, that for germans the economical results are the big priority.
Are you are gay to you want attention.Sorry I don’t support man to man marriage or play with chocolate box go and get attention somewhere else son.
Break and concurred…that is American way. The Good? the Bad and the UGLY AMERICAN
You can only offer but the Qataris already knows you are part of the House of Saud plan to invade Qatar. Qatar should go Russia if it wants to survive.
After getting CIA infor very late fat fuck wants to make fake peace.Qatar should expel Pentagon army from Qatar airbase.
Qatar must know that the US is behind all of its’ troubles and the conflict in the Gulf states, Qatar now needs to show some leadership and integrity and throw out the US base on its’ terrirtory.
BWAHAHA HAHA! Gulp – please excuse me….
I can just see it : “So you see Qatar – all you gotta do is agree and say “Iran is EVE-VIL” and have nothing to do with them. You gotta be Saudi’s (and our) puling pussycat — and it can all go back to being good. Very good. VERY VERY good. …. Yeah! And you gotta get rid of that Al Jazeera! That’s a no-no. Those people are truly horrible”
The Americans would be comical if they weren’t so damned murderous.
15 years after 9/11, 0 financiers of terrorism brought to justice…. Either the US is very bad at finding them or not at all bothered to prosecute them.
