United States President Donald Trump said on July 11 that he has ordered the military to be prepared to launch strikes against Iran if the Islamic Republic carries out or attempts to assassinate him.

“1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat, pronounced in many corners of the Globe, to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME!,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

“Orders have already been given, and the US Military is ready, willing, and able, for a one year period of time, subject to extension, to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran — PRAISE BE TO ALLAH!” he added.

Calls to “kill Trump” were featured prominently throughout the mourning ceremonies for Iran’s slain Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and later a report by the Wall Street Journal revealed that Israel has shared intelligence with the U.S. detailing an alleged plot by the Islamic Republic to assassinate him.

Two U.S. officials who spoke to Israel’s Channel 12 news later downplayed the alleged plot, saying the information was related to general internal discussions among Iranian officials about potentially assassinating Trump, rather than evidence of a specific, actionable plot.

Trump himself also flatly denied a day earlier that Israel had informed the U.S. of any such plot, although he did still threaten Iran in response.”

“No, no. Israel came up with nothing. No, no,” Trump told the New York Post in a phone interview. “I’ve been No. 1 [on Iran’s kill list] for a long time, and it’s the way life is.”

“The only thing is, I’ve left instructions — if anything happens, to just literally bomb them at levels that they’ve never seen before,” Trump said. “I hope you’ll miss me.”

The recent threats by Trump indicate that the assassination plot reports have managed to spark further tensions between Iran and the U.S. This will play in Israel’s favor.

The threats will further weaken the memorandum of understanding signed last month to end the war, which has already been shaken in recent days by clashes near the Strait of Hormuz.

So far, the U.S. has violated the deal in nearly every conceivable way — threatening Iran, launching strikes against the Islamic Republic, deploying additional forces to the Middle East, restoring old sanctions, and, more recently, imposing new ones.

Trump even said just a day earlier that the U.S. has agreed to continue negotiations with Iran, but that the ceasefire between the countries is over. This may mean that from now on, negotiations will be conducted by fire.
