Turkish officials said that terrorists were leaving European airport with luggage containing weapons and ammunition while travelling on passports registered on Interpol watch lists.
A western news outlet The Guardian reports that while King Abdullah of Jordan has accused Turkey of exporting terrorists to Europe, Turkish officials have accused European governments of attempting to export their extremist problem to the Middle East.
Turkish officials said that terrorists were leaving European airport with luggage containing weapons and ammunition while travelling on passports registered on Interpol watch lists.
The report also said that European authorities freed terrorists after being deported from Turkey.
“We were suspicious that the reason they want these people to come is because they don’t want them in their own countries,” said an unnamed senior Turkish security official.
Many analysts said that Ankara had been turning a blind eye to the influx of foreign militants to undermine Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. They also point to the fact that most of the thousands of foreign militants battling in Syria today entered through Turkey. European officials have repeatedly said Turkey ought to do more to secure its borders.
It is also reported by The Guardian that King Abdullah of Jordan reportedly said at a top level meeting with senior US politicians in January that Europe’s biggest refugee crisis was not an accident, and neither was the presence of terrorists among them.
“The fact that terrorists are going to Europe is part of Turkish policy and Turkey keeps on getting a slap on the hand, but they are let off the hook,” leaked notes from the meeting cited him as saying in a report by The Guardian and other media outlets.
According to The Guardian, the Turkish official said the EU failed to secure its own borders or abide by pledges to share intelligence and cooperate in battling the ISIS terrorist threat.
“Europe knew exactly what was happening, but they started a blame game and said the entire problem was on the Turkish-Syrian border,” said the EU’s Counter-Terrorism Coordinator Gilles de Kerchove.
On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the flow of oil smuggled by ISIS terrorists across the Syrian-Turkish border had been continuing despite attacks on the terror group’s infrastructure, and the UN Security Council’s ban on the illegal trade.
However, ISIS finances itself through drug trafficking, oil and antiquities smuggling, and ransom from kidnappings. There are also indications that wealthy individuals in the Persian Gulf region have raised most important resources for the terror group. The Russian state run television RT said it had found “precious documents” that revealed illegal oil trade by Turkey and its apparent connection with ISIS.
Turkey routinely allowed extremist to pass the Syrian border unhindered. Now we are to believe that Turkey kind of extradited the one terrorist participating in Brussels…isn’t a convenient route to infiltrate back?
