Turkey Claims Nagorno-Karabakh Ceasefire Efforts Will Fail Without Armenian Withdrawal

Turkish Presidential Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin

Efforts by Russian, France and the U.S. to end the ongoing battle in Nagorno-Karabakh will fail if Armenia does not withdraw from the disputed region, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said on October 9.

Azerbaijan launched its largest ever attack on Armenian forces in Nagorno-Karabakh on September 27. Hundreds from both sides have been killed, thus far.

“If they’re calling only for a ceasefire, if they’re working only towards a ceasefire, it will be nothing more than a repeat of what went on for the last 30 years or so,” Reuters quoted Kalin as saying in an interview on al-Jazeera “It is almost certain to fail if it doesn’t also involve a detailed plan to end the occupation.”

Kalin made his remarks when Russian, Azerbaijani and Armenian Foreign Ministers, Sergey Lavrov, Jeyhun Bayramov and Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, were meeting in Moscow to discuss the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Turkey appears to be confident that the talks in Moscow will be a failure. In a statement, Defense Minister, Hulusi Akar said Azerbaijan’s attack in Nagorno-Karabakh will not stop until Armenia withdrew its forces from the region.

“Until the occupation is over, until the terrorists and mercenaries are taken out of there, nobody should expect our Azeri brothers to stop,” Akar said in the statement.

Turkey is actively supporting Azerbaijani operations in Nagorno-Karabakh. Ankara deployed over 1,000 Syrian militants on the region’s frontlines. Furthermore, at least two Turkish F-16 fighter jets were deployed in Azerbaijan.

Kalin and Akar’s statements indicate that Azerbaijan is still not willing to compromise. The battle in Nagorno-Karabakh will not likely end anytime soon.

This is perfectly correct. Armenia will keep dragging on. This is Armenia did for 30 years. No ceasefire until Armenia agrees to withdraw troops out of N-K and remove all heavy weapons.

No Azeri campaign will continue.

paolinks

It was obvious, but now we have hard proof that the instigator is Turkey.

AZ wants a ceasefire. AR wants a ceasefire. But Turkey comes in and tries to derail the ceasefire.

Give your land to Armenians

SevenMoons

to Azeris??

paolinks

NK was Armenia before Stalin rewrote the borders in the Caucasus. Before that, it was Iran.

Historically, culturally and ethnically, it has always been Armenia. This is a fact.

SevenMoons

You dreaming. AR does not want ceasefire until the last Artskin leaves N-K.

paolinks

Ceasefire doesn’t mean they will keep NK.

Russia, France USA refuse to recognize turkeys to be important enough to participate in mediation—ceasefire accomplished beginning Saturday…apparently Azeri HTS proxies refused their pay in worthless lira—will they return to the tiny sliver of Idlib where they r extremely popular w the Syrian govt, Russian pilots and the YPG? or perhaps Tripoli is safer 7 morons is paid .5 lira per her post

Romeo Pesiao

The statements of Kalin and Akar are both unconstructive pertaining to the just agreed ceasefire brokered by Moscow.
