Ahrar al-Sharqiya shelled on July 17 Hmeimim airbase on the Syrian coast marking the first ever attack on the Russian base by a group directly controlled by Turkey.
The group released photos showing its fighters launching two Grad rockets on the airbase, confirming its responsibility for the attack.
Local sources in the coastal district of Jableh reported that two rockets had landed in an urban area kilometers away from the airbase. The rockets didn’t cause any damage.
Ahrar al-Sharqiya is a part of the so called National Syrian Army (NSA), a coalition of Turkish-backed armed groups that was formed in late 2017. Ankara is reportedly heavily involved in the management of the coalition, which is controlling the Euphrates Shield (ES) region and the occupied area of Afrin.
It is still unclear if Turkey had any prior knowledge of the attack on Hmeimim. Turkish-backed groups carried out some unauthorized attacks during the last two years. The upcoming days will likely reveal more details. Ankara usually punishes commanders responsible for unauthorized actions.
Erdogan, watch out your dogs! I think is a wrong move. If Putin would allow you to take chunks of Syria this will not apply to russian military bases. Just don’t wake up the bear.
OK uwwee
Controlled ? better to say SUPPORT. I do not think terrorists action are without the full acknowledge and direction of Turkey.
These terrorists have no relation with Turkey. Please eliminate these all terrorists and keep moving ahead.
Terrorists are operating according to the laid down procedures rules and game plan of masters. That is why their are terrorizing and sabotaging fearlessly.
That’s due to the wonderful Sotchi agreement between Putin and Erdogan !
Do not ever ever thrust Turks, historically proven that is the biggest mistake you can make: they will stab you ALLWAYS in the back.
Turks are third grade people.
“Ahrar al-Sharqiya shelled on July 17 Hmeimim airbase on the Syrian coast marking the first ever attack on the Russian base by a group directly controlled by Turkey”.
Are they kidding, all the drones that were launched at the Russian bases from the east of Idlib didn’t come from HTS or Al Nusra, that’s where the Turkish backed rebels are situated, so it must have been the Turkish backed rebels who were launching most of the dones, especially early on during the first few months of drone strikes, that’s where most of them were launched from until just a few weeks ago, first time my ass.
