The Turkish Armed Forces have finished preparations for a military operation against Kurdish PKK and YPG militias in the Afrin area in northern Syria, the Turkish Milliyet daily reported on Thursday.
The daily furher argued that Ankara has repeatedly held negotiations with Moscow on the issue asking Russia to withdraw the military police from the area. According to Milliyet, this may take about 6 days.
Milliyet added that the operation will take about 70 days and will be supported by the Turkish Air Force. The daily said that the Afrin area may be turned in another zone of de-escalation after the operation.
Earleir this week, tensions increased in the Afrin area after Turkey-led forces had shelled a number of villages controlled by Kurdish militias.
