On October 10, two Turkish service members were reportedly killed and three Turkish-backed Syrian militants were wounded when their vehicles came under attack near the Syrian town of Marea in the northern Aleppo countryside.
The vehicles, a BMC Kirpi MRAP [mine-resistant ambush protected] vehicle and an armored SUV, were targeted with anti-tank guided missiles as they were passing near the town.
The attack was allegedly carried out by Kurdish forces, namely the Afrin Liberation Forces. Kurdish forces control a pocket of land to the south of Turkish-occupied areas in the northern Aleppo countryside.

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense is yet to comment on the incident. The ministry usually acknowledges any human losses within 24 hours.
Turkish news sources said that the casualties of the attack were Turkish Special Police officers and workers in AFAD, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency. This is yet to be verified.
Kurdish forces and radical militants stepped up their attacks on Turkish forces in different parts of Syria in the last few weeks.
On October 5, an attack with an explosive device targeted a vehicle carrying Turkish officers in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib. On October 7, a Turkish service member was killed in an attack that targeted a position he was manning near the village of al-Twais in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
Turkey appears to be slowly drowning in the Syrian swamp. Many in Turkey are questioning why their military is still in the war-torn country.
In an interview that was published by al-Watan newspaper on October 10, Syria’s Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad called on Ankara to withdraw its troops from his country and restore normal relations with Damascus.
