On October 2, the first of four Ada-class anti-submarine corvettes laid down for the Ukrainian Navy was floated out in Turkey.
The corvette named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa, a Ukrainian Cossack leader from the turn of the 17th century, hit the water at the ceremony led by the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska.
This is the first of four ships built by Turkey at the RMK Marine shipyard for the Ukrainian Navy.
“Today in Turkey, I had the honor of launching a corvette that will serve Ukraine and at the same time have a Turkish heart. Ada-class corvette Hetman Ivan Mazepa will be the first ship of this class for the Ukrainian Navy,” Zelenska wrote in a social media post.
Ukrainian defense minister Oleksii Reznikov hopes that Hetman Ivan Mazepa will be homeported in Sevastopol, a Crimean port city on the Black Sea.
The tonnage of Ada—class corvettes is over 2.4 thousand tons, the maximum speed is 29 knots, and the cruising range is 3.5 thousand miles. The ships are equipped with a hangar for a helicopter or unmanned systems, and a deck platform for the departure and landing of aircraft. The corvettes are equipped with eight Harpoon anti-ship missiles, torpedo tubes for 324 mm torpedo tubes for 324 mm Mk.32 or Mk.46 torpedo tubes, a torpedo protection system, a 76-mm Oto Melara Super Rapid artillery mount, as well as anti-aircraft missiles in the form of RIM 116 PU Mk 49 RAM.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has previously claimed that the corvettes for the Ukrainian Navy will be equipped with Harpoon anti-ship missiles. The air defense means will include French anti-aircraft missile systems VL MIKA. Close-in weapon systems Oerlikon Millennium Guns with a caliber of 35 mm designed by Rheinmetall Air Defence AG should also be installed on the ships.
Kiev and Ankara signed an agreement on the construction of two corvettes for the Ukrainian Navy in 2021, at the same time the construction of the first ship began. Ukraine decided to strengthen its navy with Turkey’s MILGEM (National Ship) Ada-class corvettes.
MILGEM project is a national warship program of the Republic of Turkey. Managed by the Turkish Navy, the project aims at developing multipurpose corvettes and frigates that can be deployed in a range of missions, including reconnaissance, surveillance, early warning, anti-submarine warfare, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air warfare, and amphibious operations.
As of 2018, the MILGEM project covers four Ada class anti-submarine warfare corvettes and one ELINT corvette, four Istanbul class multipurpose frigates and TF2000 class anti-air warfare destroyers destined for the Turkish Navy, four Jinnah-class frigates for the Pakistan Navy.
While the first ship is built in Turkey, Ukraine expected to build follow-on ships at the Okean (Ocean) Shipyard in Mykolaiv, a plan likely to be complicated by the Russian invasion in Ukraine which began in February.
According to some reports, Turkish ships should enter the fleet not earlier than 2025-2030.
uh … it’s just useless, a missile during the crossing of the black sea and this ship is already ancient history, I don’t understand the purpose of sending it but I would understand even less if it arrives at its destination without to be sunk before o_O
Like the Moskva? :)
Yes. Just like the Moskva. Except it will last nowhere near as long as the Moskva did …
Wow, what a nice target. A real sitting duck. If this ship dares to sail in the direction of Crimea, I give her 2 or 3 minutes of existence before a Russian torpedo hits her.
We all hopoe so.
Sooo quiet here, difficult to teport now that Ukraine crushes drunk rag tag russia army?
Not quiet at all. I can hear your mom moaning and some dog howling. Is she into bestibility now?
The best revenge for the ameriscum CIA Op NordStream bombing is to sink that ship fast when sail to Ukraine,. Give russian submarines in Black Sea some job to do here. Will be a great propaganda move plus a good dose of morale increase for the army. Also, a strong and clear response for all west sponsored terrorism inside banderastan.
If the ship is handed over to the Russians, it is possible that the home port will be Sevastopol.
What is the guaranty that before the end of the next year Ukraine will not be a landlocked country?
We hope that Russia eliminate this ship as soon as possible, without any excuses.
Turk turd over-sized bathtub!!!! This is just a rip-off of the American Littoral (non)Combat Ship which the gay US Navy is retiring ’cause they are totally useless floating ducks!!
Putin must stop delivering natural gas to turkey and must stop russian turists visits turkey (immediately) because turkey helps ukraina with bayraktar and war ships and erdogan says crimea is ukranian peninsula .. erdogan is trojen monkey of Biden and Nato.
Tengo entendido que en con un conflicto como el actual, ningun barco de guerra puedes atravesar el Bosforo, seria una idiotez dejarlo entrar al mar Negro donde duraria segundos.
Its a nice target. A real sitting turkey. If this ship sail in the Crimea, Russian torpedos will hit Erdogan from 12.
Where they going to float this thing? Not in the Black Sea, that’s for sure …
More target practice for Russia… 😀 Please, hit them in low water areas so we can scuba dive to them for entertainment after that 😀 🇷🇺
Enter the fleet not earlier than 2025/30? Hahaha. A bit late for the party, don’t you think Zelenski? No matter. Somebody in your clique made a lot of money, and no doubt EU and US will pay the tab.
In 2024 for first ship. Anyway too late and ridiculous. What turks will do with the ship after hohlonazis lose Odessa? Obviously, they won’t give it to Russia, they won’t return money, because their part of deal is done. Kiev regime won’t take it, if it will exist at this moment. So turks could try to rebuild it for own navy or to sell it. There is famous old song, “Island of bad luck”, with this line: “No matter what they do, things are not going well.” This is right about hohols.
One c802 missile will do the trick 😉
One man’s death, is another man’s bread. Thanks to Putin the Turks can sell some weapons to the Ukrops.
if the moscow morons would have send in 500.000 troops from the beginning, than now there were not any ukro harbours or coast left where to put these ships there.
It better not be sail toward the black, once Ukraine became a landlock country it will have great use.lol
Ivan Mazepa, russian noble who had no clue that he is an ukrainian. One of cossakry leaders, known for his treason. He served to Peter the Great in 17-18 century, but changed side to serve to Karl XII, king of Sweden. Died in city of Bendery (modern Transnistria) after loss under Poltava (1709). Died of lice, appropriate death for any traitor.
My advice to the Ukrainian navel officers of this ship is to sell it for Scrap before it is Sunk by the Russian military The Scrap value in South East Asia will be considerable and you can retire to South America and enjoy life for a change
