The Turkish military and the Syrian National Army (NSA) have imposed control of the key border town of Ras al-Ayn in the northern al-Hasakah countryside, the Turkish Ministry of National Defence announced on October 12.
“As part of the successful operations being conducted in the framework of Operation Peace Spring, the town of Rasulayn, located east of the Euphrates, has been brought under control,” the ministry wrote on Twitter.
In the early hours of the morning, NSA militants captured the border crossing north of Ras al-Ayn and stormed the town’s northern district. Turkish-backed militants also advanced in the silos, west of the town.
Sources affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) denied that Ras al-Ayn was captured by Turkish forces, claiming that clashes are still ongoing in the town’s center. This is yet to be verified.
By capturing Ras al-Ayn, Turkish forces have established a strong foothold in northeast Syria. Earlier, the forces advanced west of the town, capturing 18 villages and blocking the strategic M4 highway.

At the speed of Turkish advance and a very implemented combined arms execution, the Turkish military will accomplish all their objectives in about a month. The Kurds are training for a 60 kilometer dash as they run faster than Usain Bolt to flee the Turkish advance.
What speed is that? The US is arming the Kurds for a terror state civil war east of the river. The Turks and their pet terrorists have a toe hold of 1% of the land up to the M4. Over time they can reach the full length of the M4. But I doubt that it will be done in month. 1% in 3 or 4 days is 100% in 300 or 400 days.

Dont you follow the news ? The Kurds just invited Damascus (Assad, SAA) to enter Manjib till Kobani (on the Turkish border) to counter any “Turkish offensive”. This means that the Kurds chickened out as expected in 3 days. They basically laid down arms against Assad which was the whole point of the Turkish operation. Now the US is placing 7 MRAP’s on the way of the Kobani, just to slow down the SAA to leave the place for Erdogan’s army, but that wont happen (tomorrow we will see who gets there first). That is about it for Kurds. Too scared from the Turkish fire, with no back up (the US did to them what the US does to its allies), whereas Syria still have its worldpower ally (Russia) standing for it, and respecting their alliances.

It was about bringing an END to the SDF problem in matter of DAYS. Read again the replies. It s all there. The word “obliterated” was used as well, but as a mean of persuasion to facilitate the return of the Kurds with the SAA.

The Turks are there to bring fear into the kurds, to make them make peace with Assad, and start slaughtering some bad mutlinational jihadi mercernaries in the region. Not about Turkey taking part of Syria. It was putting an end to the SDF, through Obliteration first, then through diplomacy next.

4 weeks arent done yet. Who told you that the SAA wont agree to a safe zone along the border. For now they are crying for invasion, lets wait for more and see how their speech will change and be in favor of a co-organizing border patrols with the Turks along the 300 miles along the border. The SAA has no incentive to co organize a 300 mile “safe” zone with the Turks. The US is getting out and the SDF has agreed to cooperate with the SAA. Your 300 mile Turkish controled safe zone down to the M4 is fantasy. Even if the SAA agreed to it. Which they’re not going to do. The Kurds never will. And they’ve got billions of dollars of military equipment from the US stored in Kurd majority areas.

A lot of the equipment that the US provided the Kurds will never be recovered by the Syrian government.

4 weeks like I said. The Turks are letting their proxy terrorists take over one region at a time. That is how they have kept their own casualties down. They are using only 7 brigades for an army of 500,000 men that is nothing. It is a mix of armor, mechanized infantry and commandos. It took the Turks 20,000 to 30,000 fighters to capture just 20 miles of front in Afrin. They have 15 times that amount to capture east of the river.

It’s not a ‘lightening war’ it is an anti-terrorist operation. Turkey is regaining control of the borders since the SAA lost them to stop the flow of drugs and CIA assets across the border. As the border is secured and anti-terrorism operations wrap up, the fighting will subside.
The fighting won’t subside until the Turks leave. It hasn’t in Afrin and it won’t in the NE.
