Turkey is going to move forward with its project to build a railway to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

“We plan to build a railway to Nakhchivan,” Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu said.

Azerbaijan also expressed a desire to build a railroad from Baku to Nakhchivan through Turkey or Iran. With the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway’s commissioning, the possibility of building a railway system from Kars to Sadarak was discussed. The cost of this project is 2-2.5 billion US dollars.

This is not a brand-new project; it is simply made much easier with the Karabakh peace deal reached earlier.

A number of Azerbaijani-Turkish documents were signed following the 8th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Turkey High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on February 25, 2020.

Among these documents is the ‘Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on the Kars-Igdir-Aralik-Dilucu-Sadarak-Nakhchivan-Julfa railway project.

The document was signed by Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ramin Guluzade and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey Adil Karaismailoglu.

The Kars-Igdir-Nakhchivan railway is the continuation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway route, Turkish ex-Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan said earlier.

“This railway line will also be connected to the logistics center in Kars. The construction of a railway to Nakhchivan with an access to Iran will connect this section with the East-West railway corridor passing through such cities as Edirne, Istanbul, Eskisehir, Ankara, Yozgat, Sivas, Erzincan, Erzurum, and Kars, which will, even more, strengthen Turkey’s position, Turhan said. ‘On the other hand, the construction of the railway will contribute to the development of Igdir agrarian province and will also have a positive effect on the profitability of the Sivas-Erzincan-Erzurum-Kars railway.”

Nakhchivan is a region with an area of about 5,363 square kilometers, which is geographically separated from the rest of Azerbaijan.

Mr T

niceeee

thank you Russia and armenian, we will use your hghway for our transfer or products and military support to AZ.

Rhodium 10

Ok but you will have to pay tax to cross Armenian territory!

Erol

These things are definetly also part of the deal and already settled. And considering Armenia had no other chance then accept the treaty, there is either no Tax or just very small taxes.

Armenias own fault…the longer they waited for truce, the weaker they walked to the table. At last they had to accept what Azerbaidschan/Russia/Turkey gave them.

Rhodium 10

The war was over in the moment that Russia wanted!…AZ knew that Russian troops was ready to intervene…therefore if a Road cross Nakhshivan to Azerbajan main land through Armenia they will have to pay toll!…Russian troops are now inside NK..included battle tanks and rocket launchers ( we have seen videos of these forces near capital)..

The Farney Fontenoy

Armenia should have invaded this turkish dump in the late 90s. This entire debacle shows what a complete farce democracy is, $h1t always floats to the top.

Erol

Turkey is guarantor State of Nakchivan. (There is a treaty with Russia) This would have allowed Turkey to move its troops in!

The Farney Fontenoy

Turkey was in a shambles at that time, (militarily and economically) & Armenia had the military strength to hold any land they took, Russia was desperate at the time to retain influence so they would have threatened the Turks-it could have been done, but it doesn’t matter now.

Do you really believe you wrote this. The ratio of the balance of power between Turkey and Armenia, the distance between Jupiter and Earth.

I’m talking 20+ years ago, but yeah, the Turkish Lira looks *real* healthy right now…

Erol

What shambles??? You think Turkey wouldnt had the ability to challange a country like Armenia in the 90‘s? Turkey threatened Syria with war at that Time, if they dont stop harboring PKK chief Ocalan and Syria backed down and expelled Ocalan and his high ranking crew.

The Farney Fontenoy

“Turkey threatened Syria” that is not comparable, Syria was a mess & behind closed doors the USA was arm-twisting Assad Senior, who had major economic & domestic problems along with being an old man with no appetite for war, without US-backing, and the fact attacks on Turkey were made from Syria such a threat could not have made. Nakchivan had a gray legal status & Turkish intervention could not be justified under international law, with no threat to Turkish territory, the US would not get involved like with Syria.

But what is Armenia, USA to invade anything they want? :)

Traiano Welcome

Turkey will *pay China to build a railway to Nakchivan* … Turks can’t really build anything themselves.

FlorianGeyer

I wonder if the hundreds of miles of railway lines stolen from Syria are still intact in Turkish scrap yards?

It would save erdo a lot of cash :)

The Objective

SouthFront is a Russian propaganda outlet crawling with Russian, Iranian and Syrian trolls. But there seems to be more Russian trolls than I thought. One negative comment about Russia and you’ll get tens of replies and down votes from them. Another sign is that they never mention Russia’s war crimes around the world. They also don’t talk about Russia’s imperialism, bully, and attempt to dominate others. They concentrate on the West despite Russia being guilty of the same crime they accuse America of.

But I think their propaganda is exposing Russia’s wrong doings more than it’s helping conceal it. In the past, I was totally brainwashed into supporting Putin, even considering him the wisest leader of our time. Then I started digging deeper and realized just how dangerous Russia is to the Muslim world (Sunnis in particular). In my opinion, even more dangerous than America and Israel combined. Why do I say this? Because Russia is backing Shiites who are currently on the move to take the Hejaz (Mecca and Madina), and Jerusalem. This is where Erdogan is acting foolishly.

Erdogan is making a mistake by alienating the Arab gulf regimes and maintaining friendly ties with Iran. It is true that the GCC are US puppets. But at least they have done one GOOD thing that benefits both Turkey and the Muslim Brotherhood: They have managed to keep the Shiites from taking the Hejaz. And for this, I congratulate both Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E.

Whoever does not understand the reason for all these Shiite militias should know that it is just Iran surrounding the Hejaz. Forget their claims that all the militias is meant to deter America from attacking Iran. No Iranian militia can deter an American attack on Iran. Militias don’t have an air force, navy, or sophisticated air defense systems. How would they deter America? Only Iran’s missiles can deter an American attack, not some militia that the US can destroy within months if it ever decide to.

Iran will launch a final push at some point to take Mecca and Madinah. This is the immediate goal, not even Jerusalem. Their constant reference to Israel is only to drum up support from among the Sunnis and lull any suspicions from them regarding the main goal (Mecca and Madinah). Erdogan is being fooled by the Iranians and he must wake up before it’s too late. Erdogan should keep aside this inter-Sunni fight with the Arab monarchies, including Egypt and let’s collectively deal with this imminent threat that unite us all. There is need for some NATO-style Muslim military alliance including Turkey, the GCC, Pakistan, and others. We must work to protect Sunni communities in the Middle East being targeted by Shiite militias from Lebanon to Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. We must also communicate to the violent Shiites of the middle East that we understand their plans, and that they’ll never be allowed to take the Hejaz.

Turkey’s zero tolerance of these monarchies and dictators have pushed some (UAE, Egypt, Haftar) into the hands of the enemy (Russia and Iran). The Muslim brotherhood should stop its attempts to overthrow these monarchies and dictators and instead support them in stabilizing the regimes so as to avert war and bloodshed on Muslim lands. this is the only way to influence the decision of these dictators and monarchies to favor the Muslim world. they too want stability and prosperity for their countries, and that’s where the Muslim brotherhood can help them achieve that. Instead of using its influence to fan the flames of opposition against these regimes, it should focus on convincing the public to obey their leaders (dictators or kings), and support them in maintaining a stable and prosperous country. If Turkey had taken this step, it’ll undoubtedly be leading the Muslim world including the GCC and Russia would have little chance against Turkey, especially with the West and NATO fully backing Erdogan.
