Turkey is going to open a military base in the capital of Somalia
Turkey is going to build a military base in the Somalian capital of Mogadishu in order to train more than 1,500 local troops to boost security in Horn of Africa.
According to several news sources, Turkey will build a military base in their fight against the Al-Shabaab militant group to assist security forces in Somalia.
For over five years, Turkey has been providing military assistance to Somalia within the scope of military and financial cooperation deals between the two governments.
Last December, Turkey announced that its first military base would be established in Qatar as per a defense agreement aimed to strengthen the military ties between both countries to confront “common enemies” together. After Qatar, the new base in Somalia will be the second military base on foreign soil for Turkey.
