Turkey’s Main Opposition Party Calls To Restore Relations With Damascus

The leader of Turkey’s main opposition party has called for restoring relations with the Damascus government as a way to bring peace to Syria.

“The channel of communication between Ankara and Damascus is the easiest way to bring peace,” Kemal Kilicdaroglu, chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), said on September 28, according to the Anadolu Agency.

The remarks came during the “Gate to Peace in Syria” conference, which was held by the CHP. Diplomats from various countries, academics, experts, and journalists attended the conference that aims to contribute to restoring peace in Syria.

During his speech in the conference, Kilicdaroglu also stressed Turkey’s right to fight against terrorist organizations in Syria. However, he noted that this should be done in coordination with Damascus.

“Turkey’s struggle against terror beyond its borders is a right guaranteed by international agreements and engagements,” said Kilicdaroglu, adding that Ankara should continue its counter-terrorism efforts with “respect for Syria’s territorial integrity and by establishing direct relations with Damascus.”

Ankara, under the rule of the Justice and Development (AK) party, intervened in the Syrian conflict from its very start, supporting several anti-government groups.

Earlier this year, the CHP began to gain momentum with its candidate, Ekrem Imamoglu, winning the mayoral elections in Istanbul. The AK party controlled this important post for more than fourteen years.

Kilicdaroglu’s statement marks a new appearing trend of the Turkish public politics. Ankara is hosting more than three million Syrian refugees, many of them are relaying on the government for aid or public services.

How about ‘bringing peace to Syria’ by conducting a public trial and execution of all the AKP officials responsible for supporting al Qaeda and ISIS terrorists in Syria?

Coordination with Damascus? Easy: Remove kebob from premises!

Zionism = EVIL

Syria should import some Ansarallah and let them loose on the Turkeys.

Pommy Pie

Very good news from our Turkish brothers

Not bad said.

it’s funny what a Russian knock to the head will do.

The Turkish people should be very relieved. This détente will mean that Erdogan’s plan to send tearful six year old girls to fight terrorists in Syria will be postponed….until they grow up probably.

wwinsti

Is this just more soothing words from Ankara, or have they finally got control of the Gladio operations controlling Turkey’s military?

Icarus Tanović

This party must be in a relation with Gülen or so.

BREAKING news, folks! 2 US Navy Destroyers armed with 180 Tomahawk cruise missiles JUST entered the Mediterranean Sea. US preparing massive tomahawk strikes against the illegitimate syrian regime in response to the horrific chemical attack carried out last May against innocent civilians in Latakia

US Airforce ready to protect Saudi Arabia from houthi terrorists!

What of the multiple billion dollars worth of military equipment they’ve bought to date? Are the Saudi’s impotent and amateurs??

RichardD

Yes, this is exactly what should be done. Turkey should normalize relations with Syria and stop supporting the Yinon plan regime change terrorists. And contribute to getting the US out of Syria and winding down the war there by assisting with the restoration of Syrian government administration in terrorist and foreign government occupied areas.

Spending $27 billion to resettle 3 million displaced Syrians, many of whom are government opposition, to further the Yinon plan partition and stand up foreign occupied Israelistan in the NE Syria with Turkey doing Mossad’s dirty work for the Jews is not the way to try to end the war. And is a violation of international law and a recipe for continued regional instability.

If the Turks want to spend $27 billion on repairing all of the war damage that they’re responsible for by helping to implement the Yinon plan regime change terror war against Syria in conjunction with the Syrian government, that’s fine. But doing it as part of attempting to further the partition of Syria is not ok.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

So as soon as the UN and Assad agree to make a new deal, the major Turkish opposition parties all line up to see Assad, things are looking up already, for Assad that is, not for Erdogan. I wonder what the Muslim brotherhood think of this new development now, I think it must be making their hairs stand on end, Assad and the Turkish opposition just talking will be enough to send them into a desperate frenzy, and also giving Erdogan a well deserved heart attack in the process.

d'Artagnan

Erdogan will end up with a Saudi Yemen style quagmire if he thinks he can steal Syrian lands. Dr. Assad has won and every Arab state is lining up to restore ties with the legitimate Syrian government.

Mustafa Mehmet
