On May 13, a child was killed and another wounded when Turkish-backed militants shelled the funeral of ten Syrian National Defense Forces (NDF) fighters who were killed in a recent attack.
The funeral was being held in a cemetery near the Shiite towns of Nubl and al-Zahraa in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

The NDF fighters were killed in the morning when Turkish backed militant targeted a bus that was transporting them near the town of Anjara in the western countryside of Aleppo with an anti-tank guided missile. At least nine other fighters were wounded in the attack.
In an initial response to the missile attack, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out four airstrikes on the outskirts of the Turkish-occupied town of Kafr Janneh in the northern Aleppo countryside. The airstrikes targeted a headquarters of the Turkish-backed Sultan Murad Division.

Two Turkish-backed militants were wounded as a result of the Russian airstrikes. However, this was not enough to deter Turkey’s proxy as evident by the deadly attack on the funeral in Nubl and al-Zahraa.
The recent attacks in Aleppo were the direct result of the operational freedom and military support granted by Turkey to its proxies in Syria.
Only a tough response by the Syrian Arab Army and its allies would deter Turkey proxies in the northwestern region of Greater Idlib and the northern Aleppo countryside. The militants will likely escalate their attacks until such a response is delivered.
