The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has released a video showing the PKK attack on positions of the Turkish military in the area of Petrute in the Turkish southeastern province of Hakkari. The video shows two anti-tank guided missile strikes. The first misisile hit a military position of Turkish forces. The second strike was aimed at a Sikorsky S-70A helicopter but its pilot was able to dodge the missile.

Just keep in mind, that although the helicopter was able to avoid the missile, what if the target was a civilian airline with 200 people getting ready for takeoff on a tarmac? People everywhere around the world are all going to be at risk now because the US has supplied these missiles to terrorists. And, although it was the Kurds that fired the missile, history has demonstrated that these US supplied weapons do actually make their way to al-Qaeda.

It’s not so much that the pilot ‘doged’ the ATGM but that the operator unintentionally steered the missile into the rocks while trying to follow the chopper as it dipped below the crest of the hill. It looks like the missile was following a good line to the chopper just before and as it took off, but the jerky hard left designator correction at the very end and the missile’s spiraling follow put it too close to avoid smacking into the clump of rocks.
On closer examination of the video, you can see where they probably dropped a few frames of video immediately prior to the impact. The explosion seems to happen behind (to the right of) where the ATGM should be at that moment. Kurd media, so it’s anyone’s’ guess as to what really happened.
