The Turkish Air Force has carried out airstrikes on positions, weapon caches and hideouts of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, the Turkish military said in a statement on January 23.
According to the statement, the airtsrikes were carried out the Zap region on January 22. The PKK were allegedly preparing for attacks on Turkish border posts.
The airstrikes in Iraq were carried out amid the ongoing Turkish military operation against Kurdish YPG/YPJ militias [Ankara considers them branches of the PKK] in Syria’s Afrin.
Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu also announced Turkey and Iraq are now in talks for a joint operation against the PKK in the Iraqi prvoince of Sinjar.
“They told us ‘PKK is no different from Daesh [ISIS], let’s cooperate against this threat,’” Turkey’s Hurriyet daily quoted him as saying after his visit to Baghdad on January 21.
Kurds have no response to airpower which they have not dealst with before.
Air power without a capable ground force is just tilting at windmills.
