On March 1, the Turkish Army and its proxies from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) captured the villages of Ceinke, Haydar, Kharab Suluq and three key hills between them in the Rajo district northwest of the city of Afrin, according to sources linked to the FSA.
Turkish sources said that warplanes of the Turkish Air Force (TAF) had supported the army’s attack and had targeted several positions of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the villages of Haj Khalil, Badinli and Mabata in the Rajo district.
Meanwhile, the Turkish General Staff announced in an official statement that the Turkish Army had “neutralized” 2,222 fighters of the YPG in the Afrin area since the beginning of its military operation there on January 20. The Turkish General Staff uses the term “neutralized” to imply the fighters in question either surrendered or were killed or captured, according to the Turkish Anadolu Agency.
Additionally, Anadolu Agency reported that special forces of the Turkish Police and Gendarmerie had begun supporting the army in its ongoing military operation in Afrin. Special forces are currently stationed near the districts of Jandaris and Raju, according to the source.
Turkish Police and Gendarmerie special forces will participate in a new phase of the Turkish Army military operation, which will target “the center of the Afrin area”, according to Anadolu Agency’s report. The new phase will allegedly begin in the upcoming days.
