On January 28, the Turkish Army and its proxies of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) captured Bursaya Mount and the village of Qastal Jandal east of the city of Afrin in the northern Aleppo countryside, according to Syrian pro-opposition sources and the Turkish Anadolu Agency. The sources said that the Turkish Army and FSA captured two fighters of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and killed several others during their advance.

From its side, the YPG claimed that its units repelled the Turkish attack on Bursaya Mount and killed several Turkish soldiers. However, the Kurdish militia didn’t provide any evidence to support its claims.
Meanwhile, an unnamed FSA commander told Anadolu Agency that the Turkish-backed FSA repelled an attack of the YPG on their positions around the town of Mare southeast of Afrin. According to the agency, the FSA killed four fighters of the YPG and injured seventeen others while repelling the attack.
The Turkish Army General Staff claims that over 484 fighters of the YPG have been killed since the beginning of Operation Olive Branch on January 20, while the YPG claims that over 50 civilians have been killed in the TAF bombardment so far.
