On January 21, the Turkish Army and its proxies from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) captured the villages of Adah Manli, Balal Kuy and Kurin north of the city of Afrin in the Syrian province of Aleppo, according to Turkish sources. Four key hills in the districts of Sheikh al-Hadid and Rajo west of Afrin were also captured by the Turkish-backed FSA.
From its side, the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) claimed that its fighters killed four Turkish soldiers while repelling several attacks of the Turkish Army and its proxies around Afrin. YPG fighters also killed ten FSA fighters and injured twenty others, according to the YPG media center.
Earlier, Kurdish sources claimed that the YPG destroyed three tanks of the Turkish Army with ATGMs and released a video showing a single Turkish Leopard 2A4 battle tank being hit.
However, Syrian opposition activists said that the tank was only slightly damaged and released a photo that proved this.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Anadolu Agency reported that 32 warplanes of the Turkish Air Force (TAF) destroyed 45 positions of the YPG in the area of Afrin on January 21. The Turkish Army also shelled several positions of the YPG with the T-122 Sakarya multiple launch rocket system (MRLS).

In response to the Turkish bombardment, the YPG launched three rockets at the city of Reyhanli in southern Turkey, according to the Anadolu Agency. Turkish sources claimed that several civilians were injured in the rocket attack.
The slow and steady advance of the Turkish Army faced overcame the YPG resistance in the border villages. However, the situation will likely change when the Turkish Army deploys closer to the city of Afrin.
Pro-Turkish militants:
Seems like only minor damage on that Leopard tank…
That extreme “fire” shown on the video is probably result of the hit “Nebelwerfanlage” . Dont know what the name in english is, but it is the system to create smoke as a defense system.

Looks like something a RPG would do. An ATGM would’ve made a bigger mess.
Under the video there is a photo that shows minor damage.
Kurdish sources are denying any gains made by Turkey and its proxies. We know the Turkish media has goebbelsian levels of propaganda, so more confirmation is needed.
Not sure SDF reporting is much better. Truth probably somewhere in the middle.

I would rather be flayed alive then do a thing for “Google”. Talk about being the author of your own destruction.
Turkish media are so state controlled that their readers cannot even verify what thry read. SDF media are functioning is a not closed off area as far as news is concerned. People have other sources there and are therefore more veryfiable and trustworthy.
Syria is about the same size as South Dakota. The area Turkey has captured so far is quite small. The Kurds probably have halted Turkey’s advances.

I was wondering how the Leopard’s would hold up. That one video is not definitive. Cannot really see the end result, just a white plume off a smoke. Definitely no cook off.
this is an operation of ruthless mercs, a private army sponsored by Turkey……Turkey, a well known nation for its bravery when it concerns civilian population ,organized an assault like US did…..no boots on the ground just mercs……support with armour is quite safe and very good for publicity…..
psycho-mercs of calipHell
They are all Caliphate of ISIL or ISIS troops, they came from the surrendered ranks in North Eastern Syria and left Turkey in 20 buses. These others are HTS (Al Qaeda) linked factions, possibly all on captigon , Islamist wonder drug for their inghimasi.

The kurds should try to link up Manbij and Afrin. No reason for Manbij to wait for the inevitable turkish attack, so they sould try to take the inniataive while they can.
Yes a spirted and unexpected counter attack would be good. Morale is to men as three is to one. Napoleon. A stinging counter attack will go a long way to stiffening ypg defense. I wonder ablit turkish morale

They should attack through the kurdish belt at Dzaa, Qubasein and south of al Bab. With a bit of luck TFSA will shell SAA and they get involved too.
wow you are sooo convoluted. you really think it’s a good idea to attack the second biggest army in NATO?? the US wouldn’t fight the Turks. why would kids with rifles?
Come on dying slavehoresons jihashitters :)
After a couple weeks of getting their little arses kicked in Syria, the little Turkish men will retreat back across the line. They can only bomb, they can’t win anything.
