On March 14, the Turkish Army and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) captured the villages and towns of Kaz’e, Ma’arrata, Kuran, Sheikh al-Deir and al-Ghazzawiyah in the district of Jandaris west of the city of Afrin, according to sources linked to the FSA. Additionally, the Turkish Army advanced north of Afrin and captured the village of al-Yabisa in the Bulbul district.

The Kurdish Hawar News Agency (ANHA) reported that the Turkish Air Force (TAF) had stepped up its bombardment campaign against the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the city of Afrin and in the center of the Ma’betla district northwest of it. At least 9 civilians were killed in the TAF bombardment, according to the ANHA.

Meanwhile, the YPG press announced that YPG fighters had repelled a large attack by the Turkish Army and its proxies on their positions in the Sheikh al-Hadid district west of Afrin. The source claimed that YPG fighters had killed 62 Turkish Army soldiers and FSA fighters and had destroyed 5 vehicles of the Turkish Army in Sheikh al-Hadid.

In a related development, several Syrian pro-government activists revealed that the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) had begun deploying units of the 5th Corps at different parts of the Afrin area. Furthermore, Turkish activists confirmed that the SAA units had reached the village of Basute, only 7km south of Afrin.

The SAA deployment in Afrin area appears to be a result of an agreement between Turkey, Russia, the YPG and the Damascus government. However, this is yet to be confirmed by any side.

Photos show the FSA advance in the Jandaris district:

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Hey Salafist why your nation attacked a city and region of Shia people in Syria under Government control and their checkpoints and why are you not attacking the PKK in Turkey as the YPG are not the same. The PKK were created in Turkey by The USUK to keep you Turks under control.

Suliman

Ypg are not the same ? Come on brother, we all know truth they are same shit. And I was not happy, when my stupid leader make wrong thing in Syria. I m not enemy for you.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They aren’t and those groups there were paramilitaries and not YPG as they have never left the US illegally occupied region. Manbij is Arab region yet fake ass Erdogan wants to displace the Arabs now , there they are trying to return to Syrian Government control but US occupiers threaten the people of the region.

purplelibraryguy

If the US and UK created the PKK they sure did a crap job of it. Both the PKK and YPG pretty much oppose everything the US and UK stand for–they’re basically anticapitalist, a bunch of commies/anarchists who believe in local control. If their egalitarian politics were to spread through the Middle East the US would be in trouble. No surprise that they’ve refused to back the YPG up when Turkey attacked, I expect the YPG were just waiting for the betrayal the whole time. Not that they can necessarily do much about it.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

The US and UK don’t care about the means bu only the end , hell if thy were so concerned then why did they back the Turks in the Great war killing Christians and other minorities. YPG is only a small part of their project as Al Qaeda still seems the backbone of it, you can’t dress up a sows ear to be a silk purse.

Well the US has continually betrayed them and the US feared if they did anything they would lose Turkey to Russia yet both US and Russia do’t trust Turkey very far.

When I said to kurds to stay with Assad and make a deal with him, dutchnational and others kurds were hysterics defending USA against Assad. Now, they are crying because USA will surely make a deal with Turkey to get rid of YPG because YPG did the job to be the excuse of USA invasion of Syria.

When I said to Syrians arabs and assyrians to make deal with kurds and to give them a f…ing land where to live and make a deal to secure the area, they were hysterics saying that I should instead give “my land” to kurds. Now, they are crying.

Even when you give free advices to people, they think that you want to fool them even if it’s sane behaviour to never trust anyone.

What I find interesting is that the Turkish foreign ministry released a statement stating that: by Wednesday next week the TAF will be in full control of Afrin itself! Granted they have made fast gains against smaller towns and open areas, but as I stated in a post a while back they were slower with fortified hills and more mountains terrain. So how will they conduct the assault on Afrin itself, all of us that follow this war know fine well how lengthy and complex taking built up areas are! Will they go for a all out storm? Segment it like the SAA have learned? Level the place like the yanks and denie all culpability?

I suppose this upcoming week is going to be a one of intense interest to us all, then we have to take into account what the suckyoubus nikie hayle said at the UN with her strikes comment!

purplelibraryguy

The question I’m wondering about is, will they officially attack Syrian government forces directly in Syria? There are some in Afrin itself, I believe, and more seem to be moving in. If they do, things become amazingly awkward–they can no longer pass anything off as “fighting terrorists” or “securing our borders” yadda yadda. At that point they are officially invading a sovereign country according to the basic UN “thou shalt not” definition. The US will have to use its security council veto to stop the UN from doing anything about it, which is incredibly embarrassing and has serious political costs. They don’t want to have to do that for friggin’ Turkey, who they’re not even that pleased with. And they have ways of making their annoyance felt. They might even pull a switcheroo and backstab Turkey by letting some kind of UN resolution go through; they may not be as randomly treacherous as Erdogan, but they’re not allies you can rely on either. So I wonder if Turkey will have the guts to put themselves in that kind of situation. Even in terms of warfare itself–I expect on paper the Turkish armed forces are tougher than the Syrian ones, but the Syrians have been fighting for years–they’re battle-hardened. Turks could get a bloody nose.

Redadmiral

“I expect on paper the Turkish armed forces *are tougher* than the Syrian ones, but the Syrians have been fighting for years–they’re battle-hardened. Turks could get a bloody nose.” Think you meant *are larger*. Imagine Turkey would get much more than a bloody nose. No one really knows what Erdogan and his Big Blouse Army will try, maybe he wants to take a leaf out of the Zionist book of annexing Syrian territory. Of course he would get Yankee approval. However, the only thing we know for certain about Erdogan is that he is both treacherous and unpredictable.

mhtsaropinigitakis

i think afrin will fall…but then the real war will start.. will turkey hit manbij? that will be the end of turkey

Hulusi Akar

Wishful thinking. When Turkey hits manbij, US soldiers will retreat east of Euphrates. They won’t fight for some ragtag terrorists.

Rizzzzzzz

Lol USA wont Turkey dictate America retreating from manbij. Turkey knows it limits

Hulusi Akar

USA made a promise to Turkey several times that Ypg would leave manbij. They lied more than once. If YPG doesnt retreat to the east side of the Euphrates Turkey will force them out. US has no credibility left. Any action against Turkey will result fatal for the US. Us will be kicked out of Turkey.

Rizzzzzzz

Turkey absolutely will not and NEVER take lilitary action against United States .Not even logical nor in there best interest. Only way turkey enters manbij is if US And Turkey make some sort of deal. Nor is turkey have the abilties to go against america if they wanted too .

Hulusi Akar

US warned Turkey to not launch OP Euphrates shield, guess what happened? US warned Turkey to not launch OP olive branch, guess what happened? US warned Turkey to not launch OP in Manbij, guess what will happen?

US knows if they take action against Turkey even shooting a warning shot towards, will have disastrous consequences for the US.

mhtsaropinigitakis

dream on…USA always is looking for a reason to hit someone

purplelibraryguy

The US won’t hit Turkey for the Kurds. It would happily hit Syria “for the Kurds” (and then screw the Kurds later), but not Turkey. If the Russians weren’t in the way, the US would probably already have hit Syria “for the Kurds”.

Redadmiral

In this instance they can’t as Turkey is an NATO ally. See above reply and link

purplelibraryguy

NATO cuts both ways. If the Americans wanted to put some troops in Afrin to shield the Kurds, they could. They don’t seem to want to.

Redadmiral

just in case you are unaware of above reply Turkey and the US reached an agreement regarding Manbij late last week…… http://www.basnews.com/index.php/en/news/middle-east/421480

The Kurds are disposable people to the USGOV. Like taking out the trash.

PZIVJ

“Furthermore, Turkish activists confirmed that the SAA units had reached the village of Basute, only 7km south of Afrin.” This is a good sign that TFSA will not advance any further to the SE. (lines have been agreed upon)

VGA

YPG media always bullshitting about defending attacks and killing dozens. Yeah … that’s why they are getting their asses handed to them. Imbeciles, stop getting beat up by FSA thugs!
