Turkish Army Claims It Eliminated Kurdish Fighters In Iraq & Syria, Shares Old Footage

Support SouthFront

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced on June 14 that its troops had eliminated several Kurdish fighters in Iraq and Syria.

According to the defense ministry, an infiltration attempt was foiled in northeast Syria. Three fighters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were neutralized by Turkish troops.

In the Iraqi Kurdistan region, two PKK fighters were also neutralized by the Turkish military. The fighters were detected and targeted in the areas of Zap and Avasin-Basyan.

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense shared videos, which are supposed to show the two operations. Both videos were apparently old stock footage. One of the videos was used two weeks ago only.

Turkish forces maintain a strong presence in northern and northeastern Syria as well as in northern Iraq to counter Kurdish guerilla groups, mainly the PKK. Yet, little progress has been achieved so far, as these groups are still fairly active in these areas.
