The Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) has attacked positions of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) north of the city of Manbij in the province of Aleppo.
According to reports, the FSA has engaged the SDF in the villages of al-Hosheriye. However, no gains has been made by the FSA so far.
The FSA attack on al-Hosheriye clearly shows that the Turkish leadership is not going to limit its amitions with the area of Afrin and aims to clear as much area as possible from the Kurdish-dominated SDF. It’s unlikely that the FSA and the Turkish Armed Forces launch any large-scale military opeartion against the SDF in the area of Manbij while the Afrin is not under their control. Nonethless, the tensions will continue growing there.
Ankara sees Kurdish YPG/YPJ forces, which are the core of the SDF, as a terrorist organization, the local branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). The PKK is a Kurdish separatist militia actively operating in southern Turkey and northern Iraq. It’s recognized as a terrorist group in Turkey, the US and many other countries.

No, the Syrian government has stated many times that it is willing to agree to a Kurdish autonomy under negotiations which I guess will include the handing over if the oil fields in deir ezzor and creating a alliance security force with the Kurds, however, this was said 3 months ago. The action is an unpopular one even in Turkey , you need to remember the level of theft carried out in Syria by the Turkish government hasn’t endeared them to anyone. The US can eventually use that to their advantage as leverage and keep the Turkish Government as their pet slaves, really don’t think they will want to shell out Trillions in reparations.
Possibly just Turkish probing attack to sound out what US response will be. Recall Erdogan always said YPG crossing west of Euphrates was Turkish red line. Interesting to see where it goes.
The attack was repelled completely so this was not a test but a publicity stunt, don’t think anyone will believe it. They run the same game with ISIS , ISF in Iraq caught the Oil minister for ISIS as the US failed to capture him. Possibly the only mission that will be allowed to expand by the Iraqi Government is Operation Impact which is a medical operation run by Canada in Southern Iraq.

It’s a trick. Turkey and the SDF don’t have any real enmity. They wan’t Vladimir to think they do so he can make his move in the region and get trapped in or above Afrin. More Turkish forces are in the wings and if Vladimir and company take the bait and are trapped above,then Israel would launch forth from the bottom once they’re assured of victory. US planes may accompany such madness.

So Putin has agreed with Assad and Turkey to allow a ‘buffer zone’ in Syria at the expense of the US backed Kurds. Putin and Assad keep some Oil ans so does the US. US are the minor losers as well as the unmentioned millons of dead, displaced and now starving civilians.
No, that is not entirely true. Assad and Russia has agreed with turkey that they can launch an operation in afrin. That is corr t. However, Syria only agreed because they want the Kurds to feel betrayed by th US and ultimately join Russian alliance instead and hand over bordering territory. This has nothing to do with oil.

The SDF needs to attack west from Manbij and open a new front against the Turkish backed Al Qaeda in AL Re’in to force the traitors with Turkey to defend another front.
