The Libyan National Army (LNA), led by DescriptionField Marshal Khalifa Haftar, is facing significant difficulties south of the country’s capital of Tripoli.

Earlier this week, forces of the Government of National Accord seized the town of Gharyan, which the LNA had been using to resupply its forces near Tripoli. The GNA advance, which was backed up by Turkey with armoured vehicle deliveries and airstrikes by unmanned combat aerial vehicles. After this, the LNA announced a push to recapture the town, but had not been able to do this so far.

On June 29, LNA warplanes even delivered a series of airstrikes on GNA positions in Gharyan. The LNA leadership also announced a ban on any commercial flights from Libya to Turkey and Turkish ships from docking in the country and even threatened to attack Turkish military presence there.

Despite these statements, the LNA is yet to turn the tide of the ongoing clashes in the area into own favour. If it fails to recapture Gharyan, GNA forces would likely be able to push LNA troops back from the southern vicinity of Tripoli. The LNA’s troops deployed in the Tripoli International Airport would also face difficulties with supplies.
