The Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) launched on November 7 a new large attack on the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the northern Raqqa countryside.
In a press release, the SNA announced that its militants had captured Beir Issa and Sharaqiq. Both villages are located near the key town of Ain Issa.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) revealed that Turkish combat drones backed the new SNA attack, conducting several airstrikes on Kurdish forces in the northern Raqqa countryside.
“The Syrian Observatory was informed that the Jalabiya-Ain Issa highway was cut as result of the ongoing clashes there,” the monitoring group’s report reads.
Last week, Russian forces established a coordination and operations center in Ain Issa. The attack near the base could pose a threat to Russian troops deployed there.
Russia and Turkey reached a breakthrough agreement on northeast Syria, last month. The agreement prevents Turkish-backed militants from launching any attacks beyond the agreed upon 30 km km deep “safe zone.”
