Late on August 10, the National Front for Liberation (NFL) launched a surprise ground attack on the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) positions in the outstroke of the town of al-Wasta in the southwestern Aleppo countryside.
In a short press release, the Turkish-backed coalition claimed that its militants killed and injuring a number of Syrian service members in the attack.
“They [NFL fighters] managed to capture a number of positions … Furthermore, several fortifications, where Assad’s forces were taking shelter, were destroyed,” the press release reads.
Syrian pro-government news outlets and activists have not commented on the NFL claims, so far. However, some local sources said that only four Syrian soldiers were injured or killed in the attack, which may have ended.
The NFL’s attack was clearly aimed at disturbing the ongoing SAA’s operations in northern Hama and southern Idlib. The army captured several towns and villages in the two regions over the last few days placing immense pressure on Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and other terrorist groups.
The only good deal with turks is to send them where they came from 600 years ago.
spot on
this is becoming ridiculous if not treacherous on Putins side……how can Turkey continue beiing a Partner for Russia…a NATO Country, the number 1 Nation Sponsoring ISIS and alnusra and NFL……sooner or later SAA Leadership MUST have a “straight” talk with Putin, that this ridiculous double game by Russia CANT WORK out to the satisfaction of both Turkey and Syria.FACT!! you cannot Dance on two weddings mr.putin
Maybe on the positive side of things, this ramping up the offensive in Idlib by the Syrian government is Russia’s way of slowly and quietly distancing itself from Turkey. Especially seeing that after selling those S-400, Turkey still host U.S. military personnel, and so called rift from the U.S. and NATO is as fake as three dollar bill. Russia is better off further perusing its relation with the other regional power Iran, regardless of any differences they might or might not have. At-least Iran’s policies and objectives are clear and well understood, unlike two faced flip flopping Turkey.
Yeah cause Russia hoped that by buying few billion Russian equipment that would mean Turkey will expel American basses, quit NATO and stop trading with USA. Those S-400 must have some magic powers orr… rather Russians hoped USA will kick Turkey out of NATO
You drive a small wedge into a fracture to see if you can increase it. And now there will be no F-35’s flying out of Turkey (including all NATO counties) ?
Personally I would like to see Turkey out of Nato. But I’m not a teenager anymore to hope that Turks really want or can afford it.
well said.
“…sooner or later SAA Leadership MUST have a “straight” talk with Putin, that this ridiculous double game by Russia CANT WORK out to the satisfaction of both Turkey and Syria.FACT!!…”
You don’t play chess at all do you? Do you even play checkers? Putin is doing his job: looking after the interests of his country: RUSSIA. He doesn’t care about the ‘satisfaction’ of either Turkey or Syria. It’s not Russia’s ‘job’ to fight Syrian wars nor to start WWIII over (of all places) Turkey.
Russia is juggling about twenty different issues here, only ONE of which is how Turkey backed themselves into a corner (with Russian help) by supporting Syrian head-choppers. Turkish-backed terrorists are Muslim Brotherhood-aligned head-choppers, not U.S. backed, Saudi Wahhabi-aligned al Qaeda/al Nusra. Turkey doesn’t want any of them back in Turkey, but doesn’t want Kurds (or Syrians for that matter) in it’s northern Syria ‘safe zone’. Smeagol also has about a dozen other issues – land and resource theft, shaking down his own people, US arrogance… it’s not all black and white for anybody. Except for the Syrians, who would have preferred everyone had just stayed the fuck out of their country.
Great comment! It is refreshing to see that some people can talk about the complexities of the situation, rather than the simplified version of “just go an’ get ’em”.
I am merely aware of the complexity based on comparison with my country’s sad (but expected) usual approach: Get marching orders from Khazar Mafia against chosen enemy -> Demonize enemy leader -> form Coalition of Evil against enemy -> sanctions -> execute Plan A -> failure -> more sanctions -> Double down with Plan B -> failure -> more sanctions -> Double down once again with Plan C -> failure -> etc.
The SAA and Assad have had plenty of straight talks with Putin concerning his continued support for Erdogan, but then again so have many members of the Russian government and Military, and up until 2 months ago he wasn’t listening to any of them, but I think he’s started to now. When you read the statements made by high ranking Russian government officials, or by high ranking Russian military commanders, it’s always the same rhetoric as Assad’s, “all rebels fighting in Syria must be eliminated”, which is the opposite of what Putin’s been saying for the last 6 months, “Astana agreement, reconciliation, peace process”, but as I say, not for the last 2 months, for the last 2 months Putin hasn’t been saying “Astana, reconciliation, peace process” or anything at all, he’s been silent. And as much as myself and a few others, you included, have found Putin’s constant kowtowing to Erdogan, which is actually putting both Russian and Syrian servicemens lives at risk, totally and utterly indefensible, just imagine how many members of the Russian government and military feel about it, about 1000 time worse I’d guess. I can imagine many discussions happening in Russia amongst the political and military elite concerning Putin’s political future, he hasn’t put a foot wrong up until now, but I think things have changed in Russia lately, the fact he’s been silenced is a good sign his voice has been stifled by a majority of the Russian leaders who don’t agree with his constant kowtowing to Erdogan, which is continually putting Russian soldiers lives at risk.
agree million percent
Riding on 5 horses at the same time will sooner or later result in cracked pants. But Russia is bound to secure Israels security and the Yinon plan as 1st priority. Otherwise Russia cant get usury loans……………………………………………..LOL.
