Turkish-Backed Militants Take Control Of Ras Al-Ayn Following Kurdish Fighters Withdrawal

Support SouthFront

On October 20 afternoon, the Turkish military and the so-called National Syrian Army (NSA) took over the border town of Ras al-Ayn in the northern al-Hasakah countryside, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

“Turkish regime forces and their mercenaries have occupied the town of Ras al-Ayn in al-Hasakah’s countryside,” the state-run agency’s reporter in the northeastern governorate said.

Earlier, sources affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported all Kurdish fighters had withdrawn from Ras al-Ayn. Dozens of injured people and corpses were also evacuated by first responders who entered the town yesterday.

Ras al-Ayn witnessed heavy clashes between Turkish-backed militants and SDF fighters for more than a week. Dozens of militants were reportedly killed as a result.

The clashes continued even after the implementation of the U.S. sponsored ceasefire, with NSA militants attempting to advance in the town’s outskirt.

By capturing Ras al-Ayn, Turkish forces have achieved one of the main goals of Operation Peace Spring, launched on 9 October. The withdrawal of the Kurdish fighters from the town was one of the terms of the U.S. sponsored ceasefire.

Do the land between Ras Al Ayn and Tel Abyad is lost like Afrin and North Aleppo.

Icarus Tanović

They are not. As soon as SAA starts offensive, NSA will be destroyed. It won’t last long. Be patient and watch.

Derek Johnson

Yes that same SAA who with Hezbollah and Iran could not stop the head choppers, Assad was only a few days away from receiving a steel enema like Gadaffi. The tide turned because the Russian Federation stepped in with Wagner and their airforce. Now you think the mighty SAA will step in and take back every inch? Dream on my friend.

Icarus Tanović

Not every inch, but every centimeter, okay now? You dream on.

Kemal Büyük

Keep telling that to yourself. You balkanic scum.

Looting and slaughtering can begin

Icarus Tanović

Not for long time, my friend, not for long. NSA will be destroyed, and Tutkish regime won’t lift a finger for them. Watch and see. Just be patient.

The Turkish regime seems intensely interested in the Rmelan and Suwaidiyah oilfields, way up in the northeast around al-Malikiyah. They are part of the Turkish ‘safe zone’.

Erdogan is interested in keeping the oil from Syrians and maybe skimming a few million in profits for his own family. Those oilfields and their facilities are old. The US did some kind of study and concluded there was almost a half-trillion (500 billion) barrels in undiscovered oil reserves there, mostly below the existing formations. Those reserves would double the current total existing known reserves in Syria. Neither Turkey, nor the US, intend to let Syria drill for that oil or use it. I’m guessing Turkey will sacrifice as many SNA as necessary to take and hold those oilfields.

Icarus Tanović

They know, Turkish regime, or maybe not that destruction of NSA and try out to grab oil fields would be drag into Hell and Vietnam for them.

Hornet24

I really hope and believe to that ;)

Have the civilians been evacuted too or only the SDF fighters?

Pave Way IV

The civilians fled fearing a Turkish massacre – nobody evacuated them. SNA head-choppers attacking the city include a lot of Jaish al Islam – the old al Ghouta head-choppers. None of the Ras al Ayn civilians wanted to be taken as a head-chopper hostage to be used later in the next JaI/White Helmet nerve gas victim video.

Weird, because a couple of days ago, there were reports of civilians fleeing to Ras al Ayn for medical treatment and shelter.

xTheWarrior22

I think these were journalists and volunteers who evacuated injured people, but I’m not sure. I’m afraid there are still some civilians left inside this town, like in Tell Abyad or Afrin.

Icarus Tanović

If Jaish is there we can expect massacres and mass graves. But, just watch Ras Al Ayn will be liberated. Just to say that same will happen with Afrin. Just watch and be patient.

Turkey is supporting terrorism. Idlib shall be annihilated. Period.

The United States supported and funded most of the militant factions grouped in the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA), which is now aiding Turkey in an offensive against US-backed Kurds in Syria, a new document reveals. Syria’s official news agency SANA, citing a newly-released document by the pro-government Turkish think tank SETA, said in a report on Sunday that the White House not only gave the green light to Ankara to launch its so-called Operation Peace Spring against the Arab country, but also placed its “mercenaries and terrorist… at the disposal of Turkey.” According to the SETA document, which is a research paper, 21 militant factions of the Ankara-backed FSA had been supported by Washington either directly through the Pentagon or through the CIA and the operating room affiliated to it in Turkey. “Out of the 28 factions [in the FSA], 21 were previously supported by the United States, three of them via the Pentagon’s [so-called] program to combat Daesh. Eighteen of these factions were supplied by the CIA via the MOM Operations Room in Turkey, a joint intelligence operation room of the ‘Friends of Syria’ to support the armed opposition. Fourteen factions of the 28 were also recipients of the US-supplied TOW anti-tank guided missiles,” said the SETA documen
