The so-called National Front for Liberation (LNA) announced on August 2 that it will respect the ceasefire agreement in Greater Idlib.
In an official statement, the Turkish-backed coalition openly said that it will take advantage of the ceasefire to train and reorganize its members. It also warned the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) of any violation.
“We will rest our arms and give our fighter the opportunity to heal their wounds, to accommodate their families, to prepare and train for what’s yet to come while our hand remains on the trigger to respond to any foolish act our enemy could think of,” the statement reads.
The NFL followed the footsteps of its key ally, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), completely ignoring the terms of the Sochi agreement which are essential for the success of the ceasefire.
Under the agreement, which was reached last September, all heavy weapons and terrorists should withdraw from the 15-20km demilitarized zone around Idlib. Ignoring these terms, HTS and the NFL demonstrate that they are not going to fully implement the Sochi agreement.
