On February 17, a Turkish drone strike targeted fighters of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) who were manning a post located only 20 meters away from a key base of the Russian Military Police near the town of Tell Tamer in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah.
In a statement, the SDF’s Tell Tamer Military Council said that two of its fighters were wounded as a result of the drone strike.
Following the strike, the Turkish military and its proxies shelled the villages of Tell Shinan which is also located near Tel Tamer.
The Russian Military Police has been deployed near Tel Tamer since October of 2019 to monitor a Russian-Turkish de-escalation agreement. The Syrian Arab Army also maintains a number of posts around the town.
This was the seventh Turkish drone strike to targeted SDF-held areas since the beginning of February. The SDF responded to previous strikes by targeting Turkish-occupied areas in the northern and northeastern Syria.
Tensions between Turkish forces and the SDF will not likely fade away anytime soon. The two sides may soon find themselves in a serious military confrontation.

The bastards thought that Russia will simply bully Turkey out of Syria because they are nuclear-armed. Putin has been checked by Erdogan since the March 2020 episode. Turkey was taken by surprise when 35 of its soldiers were killed. More Russian troops have died in Syria than Turkish troops, even by 2019 reports coming from the Russian ministry of defense. Casualties have increased since the. They tried supporting a small cell to be using IEDs against Turkish troops. but Turkey retaliated in kind and Russian special forces were also dying from IEDs, so they stopped. The good thing is that Turkey has an unofficial nuclear deterrent from Pakistan which Russia is quite aware of. conventionally, Russia CAN’T defeat Turkey in Syria – not with the poor performance of their air-defense systems, the limited capabilities of their fighter jets, their vulnerabilities in the Mediterranean sea, and their lack of ground troops in Syria (Iran won’t supply cheap soldiers anymore). The prolonging of Syria’s war is to Turkey’s advantage. It buys time for Turkey to arm-up and speed up its weapons program, many of which are nearing fruition. I’m pretty sure that after the killing of 35 Turkish soldiers in 2020, the Turkish military has now prepared for a confrontation with Russia. Turkey has created situations around Syria that no body would want fight them. It’s time for greater cooperation between Turkey and Iran to eject both Russia and America. Turkey and Iran should reform Syria and ensure each other’s interest (Iran keeps their link to Hezbollah, which Turkey dismantles the SDF). Russia is building up Assad’s army, but Turkey is also building up the rebels. So, we are keeping pace. Time for a deal between Turkey and Iran on the future of Syria.
