Early on April 4, a Turkish combat drone targeted a quarry controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in al-Hasakah.
The drone fired a single munition at the quarry, which is located in the village of Deirka near the town of al-Malikiyah in northeastern al-Hasakah. A bulldozer was destroyed in the strike. However, no human losses were reported.

The Hawar News Agency revealed that the bulldozer was owned by a civilian, Marwan Farman. This raises a question about the real motive behind the Turkish drone strike.
The Turkish military and its proxies have been harassing the SDF for a while now. Over the last few weeks, a series of Turkish-led attacks targeted the Kurdish-led group positions in northern Raqqa and northern al-Hasakah.
In October 2019, Turkish forces invaded northeastern Syria. The SDF ended up losing a long strip of land between the town of Tell Abyad in Raqqa and Ras al-Ain in al-Hasakah.
The recent developments indicate that Turkey is still planning to expand its control in the northeastern Syria. Last year, Russia warned the SDF that Ankara is eyeing the town of Ain Issa in northern Raqqa. The town is located right on the M4 highway which links Raqqa with al-Haskalah and Aleppo.

Wow this is a new development, an attack against an area where the US forces are deployed, I’m pretty sure that’s a first. This strike was right near the Turkish border and only 5km away from the Iraqi border, which makes me think the Turks were targeting PKK fighters fleeing Turkey and heading to northern Iraq via Syria, but if that’s not the case it’s going to be a very worrying development for the SDC/SDF, and for the US. Is Erdogan trying to push Biden’s buttons so he can gauge the US’s responses, or has he coordinated this strike with the US as part of a new agreement with Biden, I suspect he’s more likely pushing Biden’s buttons.
PKK fighters are no fleeing there at all.
