In the afternoon of October 10, the Turkish military and the National Syrian Army (NSA) advanced further in northeast Syria, capturing new positions from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Turkish forces captured the towns of Beir Ashiq, Aqsas and Hamiyda east of the key border town of Tell Abyad in northern Raqqa. A few hours earlier, the town of Yabseh along with its farms as well as the village of Tell Fender west of Tell Abyad were captured.

The forces also advanced in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah, capturing the towns of Kashtou and Kashtou Tahtani. Both towns are located to the west of the key town of Ras al-Ayn.

“More than thirteen PYD [Democratic Union Party] / PKK [Kurdistan Workers’ Party] terrorist gang members were killed in Operation Peace Spring,” the NSA said in a short press release.

Meanwhile, the SDF claimed that its units had destroyed five battle tanks and killed five Turkish-backed militants near the town of Tell Abyad. These claims are yet to be verified.

The Turkish military and the NSA launched Operation Peace Spring a day earlier, with the aim of establishing a 30-40 km “safe zone” in northeast Syria. Washington facilitated the operation by withdrawing its troops from border line with Turkey.

Who else can Turkey get to fight for them, the Saudis? Israel has this man power problem even worse.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

Hope they all get destroyed

Saddam Hussein

Kurds take full blame for this mess. President Assad will ban their garbage language when this is all over.

Cronos Sin Apellidos

If they are smart, and I think they are, they won`t do such thing. They will wait, and after they will help the kurds with open armas.

J Roderet

Yes, the Kurdish political leaders are totally to blame here. They happily jumped into bed together with Washington and Tel Aviv thinking that they could carve a Greater Kurdish empire out of Syria, Iraq, Turkey, and Iran. Now the Syrian Kurds will be lucky to even get some autonomy deal. However, I do not think Syria would consider banning their language though, that would not help stabilize the country over the long term.

take alook at Picture number 3 from above……………. Isis finger sign!!!!!!!!!

Real Anti-Racist Action

That is a Monotheist sign. Christians do that, Shia, Alawites, Sunnie. That is pointing that there is one God and that He reigns from Heaven. https://www.holyobserver.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/pointing.jpg https://i.imgflip.com/1vsfbk.jpg

“After his continuous support for terrorism in Syria, training, arming, protecting and sending terrorists to kill Syrians, the head of the Turkish regime came up today with statements that can only be made by a person detached from reality. He speaks of his commitment to protect Syrian people whilst he has the blood of the Syrian people killed by terrorists on his hands,” Syria’s official news agency SANA cited an unnamed source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates as saying in a statement on Thursday.

could not be said any better. Spot On!!

Phoron

Turkler army and Bashi-Bazouk auxilliaries will soon wipe away the commie Kurd YPG and the pigheaded SDF leadership, that’s really the only upside to what’s going on.

Real Anti-Racist Action

The Kurd’s and Israel are one nation divided by Damascus, Turkey is intervening on Damascus behalf saving them from their own ignorance. https://images.poms.omroep.nl/image/s1200/c1200/s1200%3E/515217.jpg https://image.shutterstock.com/image-photo/israel-vs-kurdistan-kurdish-smoky-260nw-1395947636.jpg http://www.jcfk.org/images/newsroom/171031i24.jpg

The SAA needs to advance across the river.

PZIVJ

SAA still holds the bridgehead across the river NE of Deir Ezzor. Salhiya sits on route 7, I do not know if they ever repaired the bridge there.

RichardD

I think that the single lane modular bridge south of Dier Ezzor was replaced after it was flooded out by a dam release. Now that the west bank is secure they can put those bridges in quickly all up and down the river. And the river isn’t very deep. Which gives them a lot of flexibility.

Iraq may also allow border access.

The main issue is US airstrikes. If those can be neutralized. There’s not much that the SDF can do to prevent a large scale SAA advance all across the NE.

Syria essentially has a peer air defense system to Russia. That can be operated directly by the Russian military. It wouldn’t take much now that it’s in place and up and running to bring in additional aircraft to put a no fly zone in place over all of Syria. That both NATO & the IAF would be reluctant to mess with.

If that can be done the SAA and company can roll up to the Turk front lines in the NE recovering 90% of the territory east of the river. And then work something out with the Turks on turning over what they’re holding.

PZIVJ

There where reports of some SAA troops reaching Deir Ezzor, elements of the 5th Div. But also reports of coalition aircraft flying near the river. As you said “The main issue is US airstrikes”. I think any SAA move would have to wait for the SDF to make the right decision. But looks like they will have to endure more pain first, before coming to their senses.

RichardD

The SDF really has no incentive to disarm when they hold everything south of the DMZ being put in place to the river. They’ll just move everything there. And the CIA will probably run a few ISIS sock puppet false flag attacks as a fig leaf justification to continue the occupation.

Now if the US pulls out of the rest of the NE, then the SDF may capitulate and turn to the SAA for help. There’s also the issue of money. If the US is still funding them. They’ll follow their pay checks.

The only thing that I can see that changes the equation in Syria’s favor is an expansion of the no fly zone taking away SDF air cover. Then regardless of SDF funding. They’d be unable prevent an SAA advance.

verner

they are getting there on their way to the north – kurds squeezed between turks and syrians, not the best place to be at.

xTheWarrior22

First Turkey stopped the Idlib offensive, then it launches that military operation. It’s a pure terror state and should pay for all the syrian blood.

George Raptis

Long live Syria!

xTheWarrior22

Bashar, allah, souria!

Laszlo Elias

I do not support Turkey and its re-armed re-equipped Al-Qaeda-ISIS terrorist army, wearing FSA patches on their shoulder or who knows what are called this time..But the Kurdish pretty much deserves what they got this time..This is the punishment for their own treason..

AleK

Surprisingly weak kurdish resistance…

jj

They didn’t do hardly anything in Afrin either when the Turkish army came – basically just got out of the way. I mean the Kurds plant a few landmines or bombs and there’s a few sniping attacks/ambushes which kill 1-3 Turkish soldiers on average, but it doesn’t add up to much loss for the Turkish forces. There’s never a frontal battle or any real battle at all between the Kurdish and Turkish forces despite the Kurds huge numbers.

verner

and trump does the right thing – start the withdrawal of troops that he tried to do in the spring and which was thwarted by bolton/pompeo and now that bolton is gone and pompeo mostly is invisible (afraid to lose the job like bolton) trump is back to his old election mood – end the useless and ruinous wars. mic/deepstate hate him for it but he will succeed unless the mic/ds does another dallas on him or some such intervention.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

I hope pompeo is next to resign or be fired
