A Syrian service member was killed on November 6 when Turkish-backed militants attacked a position of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the northern Raqqa countryside, according to the Hawar News Agency (ANHA).
“The occupation [Turkish] army and its mercenaries of the al-Nusra Front and ISIS carried out an attack on the village of Hualku near Tell Abyad … As a result, a soldier of the Syrian regime’s forces was killed and another was injured,” ANHA’s report reads.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense has not commented on the incident, yet. However, the attack was reported by several local sources.
Thousands of SAA troops were deployed in northeast Syria in the last few weeks under a military agreement between the Damascus government and the SDF. Another agreement between Russia and Turkey welcomed the deployment of the army in the region.
By attacking the SAA in the northeastern region, Turkish-backed militants are violating the Russian-Turkish agreement. This could lead to more tensions in the region.
