Early on October 10, the Turkish military and the National Syrian Army (NSA) made their first gains in northeast Syria by capturing positions west of the strategic town of Tell Abyad in northern al-Raqqa.
The NSA said that its fighters imposed control of the town of Yabseh along with its farms as well as the village of Tell Fender.

Warplanes and artillery of the Turkish Air Force (TAF) are now targeting the remaining Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) positions in Tell Abyad and its surroundings.
From its side, the SDF claimed that its fighters had destroyed four Turkish battle tanks during the clashes around Tell Abyad. However, the Kurdish group presented no evidence to back its claims.
The Turkish offensive in northeast Syria, dubbed Operation Peace Spring, was launched a day earlier with the aim of establishing a “safe zone” in the region.
So far, at least eight civilians have been killed as a result of Turkish bombardment on northeast Syria. The number will likely grow in the coming hours.
Looks like Turkey, not wanting to be left behind by KSA’s struggles in Yemen, is craving hard for its own Vietnam.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed that 109 “ terrorists” were killed since Ankara launched the offensive into Syria the previous day — a reference to the U.S.and Israeli-allied Syrian Kurdish fighters. He also stated that Turkish advance has gone better than expected.
The other FACT is that the Turkeys are now moving beyond the 30 kms belt and in some places have dropped commandos over 50-60 kms deep in Syria. There will not be much of Syria left.
At the very least, there will probably be an Afrin style guerrilla war supported by the SAA in exchange for territorial concessions expanding the Syrian government footprint east of the river. But it’s to early to make projections with any degree of certainty.
As I have said before, there are two factors that bode well for Turkey. One is the huge advantage in armor and airpower and secondly the large pool of Sunni Arabs who can be recruited as headchoppers for the SNA. The Turks emboldened by lack of resistance are now going much deeper into Syria as the pig Erdogan just said.
The Turks have that advantage in Afrin. And when they ran up against the Syrian backstop their advance stopped. What makes you think that it will be any different in the NE with hundreds of miles of the west bank of the river controlled by Syria and bridges going in across it?
Like I said yesterday, let this play out for 3-4 weeks. In that region that time frame normally shows the outcome. Unless the Kurds ally with SAA and the Axis of Resistance, I don’t see a snowballs chance in hell for them. The Sunni Arabs of Syria have been actively Wahhabized by Saudi and Emirati funding. Just look how many Saudi scum preachers are killed in Syria fighting alongside the headchoppers and not in Yemen, as there the majority population is either Zaidi Shia or moderate Sunnis. In Syria, it is different story.

From a military point of view, this operation is far bigger than any of Turkeys previous operations against Greeks or in Syria. Syria has a peer air defense force to Russia when combined with satcom integration. Expanding the no fly zone over the NE takes away the SDF air cover and makes advancing against them up to the Turkish front lines realitivly easy.
That puts Syria in a much better negotiating position with Turkey then allowing them to take over the entire NE.
SDF will reintegrate to Syria, and then iy will be Vietnam for Turks. If KSA did it why they shouldn’t anyways?
