The Turkish military has reinforced its troops on the border with Syria by deploying several additional commando units there, according to the Anadolu Agency.
The agency’s reporter said that a convoy transporting the new reinforcements arrived in the southern Turkish province of Hatay on April 13. Later, the convoy headed towards military positions on the border under strict security measures.
Hatay’s main border crossing with Syria, Kesab, is controlled by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA). However, the rest of the province’s southern border is under the direct control of several terrorist groups, including Hya’t Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) and Ajnad al-Kavkaz (AK).
Turkey stepped up its security measures along the terrorist-held areas recently. Turkish commandos shoot and killed dozens of people, including woman children, who tried to sneak into Turkey over the last few months.
It’s unclear if these new security measures along the border with Syria are a part of the de-escalation agreement with Russia, or if Turkey is preparing to stop a possible refugee wave that could result from a nearing escalation in Idlib.
