On February 7 morning, the Turkish military established its first observation post around the city of Idlib in northwest Syria.
According to opposition sources, a unit of the Turkish Armed Froces, consisting of several battle tanks, vehicles and dozens of troops, established the post in the “Military Housing Complex,” which is located between Idlib city and the town of Sarmin to the south.
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is now situated less than 1 km away from Sarmin and only 9 km to the south of Idlib’s city center.
A day earlier, the Turkish military took over Taftanaz Air Base in eastern Idlib, deploying dozens of battel tanks, armored vehicles and engineering vehicles there.
Al-Mayadeen reported earlier this week that the Turkish military inspected terrorists’ positions around Idlib city in what appears to be preparations to establish observation posts there.
The Turkish military followed the same tactic in Saraqib, establishing four posts around it last week in an effort to stop the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) attack. However, the army went on and liberated the city.

Turkish observation points are one of the wonders of the Middle East. No one knows or understands their role. In practice, they serve as a landmark for the SAA, as where to go.
As i said before, they are BAIT. Erdogan is deperate for the SAA to give him a pretext to an all out attack. He would actually love to see his bait soliders attacked and killed; I bet the propaganda for this event is already ready. Lets hope it does not come to this. Another thing is, that this provides Erdogan with more leverage in case of a political settlement. Win win for Erdogan, Loose-Loose for the poor sobs sitting in those bunkers.

The more Erdogan is threatening , the more obvious Turkey will do very little.
I think Erdogan wants to occupy more as possible of syrian land permanently with some puppet government who wil lately “beg” Erdo to join that part to Turkey. Same what Israelis are doing with Golan Heights.

I would give away a house if I woke up tomorrow morning and read that the Russia Armed Forces and the SAA bombed and killed every single Turkish troop that has even one toe in Syria.
This continuing assault and genocide on the people of Syria cannot stand… it is more than obvious that since the International Criminal Court has yet to file charges against the U.S., Israel, Saudi Arabia, and every NATO state that has contributed to this genocide, that they are nothing more than yet another institution that is under the complete control of the U.S. / UN / Israel.
An OP is not going to stop a military advance. To say that is stupid. All they do is observe what is happening in their field of vison and report back to base what is going on. The tanks are for their protection but should they consider attacking the SAA they would be removed pretty quickly either from the air and or combined artillary / tanks . All the SAA does is goes around them at a safe distance and surround them. Erdogan is no Mustafa Kemal Atatürk who said too his newly arriving troops . ” you did not come here too fight , you came here to die for your country ” and they did.
