On February 8 morning, the Turkish military established a second “observation post” in the outskirt of Idlib city in northwest Syria.
The new Turkish post was reportedly established in the “Almastumah Camp,” that is located 6 km to the south of Idlib’s city center.
Opposition sources shared several videos showing dozens of Turkish armored vehicles, tucks and engineering vehicles heading towards the new observation post.
A day earlier, the Turkish military established its first post around Idlib city. The post was set up in the “Military Housing Complex” between Idlib city and the town of Sarmin to the southeast.
The Turkish military could establish more observation posts around Idlib city in the upcoming few days. These post are likely meant to deter the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and prevent it from advancing towards the city. A similar step failed to keep the army out of Saraqib city.

A battalion is anywhere from 300 to 800 men and accompanying vehicles, and with whatever numbers the Turks already had at the OB posts before, now there’ll be an additional 300 to 800 soldiers on top of that. And the 500 vehicles deployed to the border are separate to the ones deploying to the OB posts, there’s at least another 500 vehicles heading to the OB post too, so there’s going to be quite a few at each OB post. 300 to 800 men and 40 vehicles joining the existing detachments, and each OB post had several hundred men and about 20 to 30 vehicles each, and that’s times 12 OB posts, that’s what we’re facing now. So each OB post will have a minimum of 500 soldiers and 60 vehicles, but at a max they could have as many as 1,000 soldiers and 70 to 80 vehicles each, so multiply that by 12 and you get a min of 6,000 soldiers and 720 vehicles, but the max could be as high as 12,000 soldiers and 960 vehicles.
