Turkish Militay Established ‘Observation Post’ In Southern Aleppo – Reports

Support SouthFront

Overnight on January 30, a Turkish military convoy reportedly reached the area of Al-Eis in southern Aleppo in order to establish an observation point there. According to a media wing of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, several vehicles of the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) are now stationed there.

The establishment of the Turkish observation post in southern Aleppo is likely aimed at preventing the Syrian Arab Army from further advances on positions of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in the area.

Sooooooo…

You just go AROUND them???

Just like the turks are gonna do to the americans at manbij???

Total waste of time…

Barba_Papa

That would be my suggestion as well. What are they going to do? Go running screaming to the Americans, the same ones they’re bickering with about the Kurds? Who they can barely defeat so far?

Erdogan likes to bluff a lot, but usually his cards are not turning out to be that great. Never be afraid to call this loser’s bluff. All he’s really good at is bullying Turks themselves.

Anthony Paul Mapes

I think any one that posts is going to say the same thing! “Around we go”

MeMadMax

I dunno, erdoghan may be bluffing, but he may also be trying to bait russia too in some kind of NATO bullshit deal…

You can call me Al

Yeah, after reading the above, I am in that mind now; but we don’t know yet, so let’s see.

The only thing from banging my head against the screen is that I still have great faith in the Russkies and they could not have been ignorant to allow this, without a counter.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They fired warning shots well ahead of the convoy they were entering the front lines and decided to withdraw , all SF is reporting is opposition nonsense. They are trying to be fair but still doesn’t excuse them from publishing fake news.

Richard M

If they have come to observe, then give them something to observe, like incoming!!!!

Rob

Erdogan had invaded Iraq before about in 2015 but on international pressure Erdogan withdrew from Iraq. The same mistake Erdogan have repeated again in Syria. This time Erdogan needs proper treatment that he does not do this mistake again. —————————————————————————————————————————————

The devision of the Syrian nation is not in favour of Kurds and the rest of the Syrian nation. Together Syrian can defeat Turkey but when they divide then it will consume a lot of human lives, time and some military hardware from Syria. Kurds will also loose all land of Syria. The Kurds politicians are incapable, unintelligent and unqualified. —————————————————————————————————————————————

SG

The SAA cannot withstand a full-scale invasion by the TAF, even with Russian air and naval support. However this wouldn’t be beneficial for Turkey, as it would damage the country’s relations with the rest of the world and therefore its economy.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They left without establishing anything OP a fire broke out in one of their trucks and they were waiting on permission from Damascus which was not forthcoming.

Richard M

Hopefully SyAF will send them a message of welcome very soon!

Rüdiger Preiss

The might not even need googles to observe some action there

It has always been the intent to kettle the Afreen Kurds in a 50 x 50 km kill sack and this has come as no surprise. However our appreciation was that Turkey would launch a conventional pincer movement , mech/armor brigade from the Reyhanli salient up the river valley , axis Jindeeris – Afreen combined with advance from Marea and Azaz westwards, all supported by close air support , artillery, and securing tactical objectives en-route with heliborne infantry. Well, so far we are wrong. Turkey has launched multiple diversionery probes, probably to stretch YPG defenses and keep guessing the direction of main effort. Although Turkey has built up and assembled battlegroups ready to roll, I believe advancing NE from the Reyhanli salient would be suicidal and likely meet the same fate as the Israelis at Wadi Saluki S.Lebanon 2006. Assume YPG have mined/IED/AT teams on the slopes overlooking the imperative approaches in this restrictve terrain, if not they should do so ASAP ! Don’t forget that Turkish Army has extensive experience in mountain anti-guerilla warfare and capability to deploy troops by RWA Pumas, plus every square meter of YPG Kurdish territory is covered by precision artillery from inside Turkish border plus new bases in northern Aleppo. Do not be fooled by slow progress by FSA mercenaries – these are just light infantry cannon fodder for diversionary attacks. Turkey has deployed forces from Reyhanli into Syria directly EAST past Qabtaan al Jabal and now threaten to link up with their HTS pals who straddle the highway at Andaan and Haritaan. The only mystery is why they have yet to open the offensive drive from Marea thru Sheikh Issa to Tal Rifaat, once they take that they will have complete fire control over all movement from Aleppo northwards and Afreen cut off from re-inforcements and kettled. (Sheikh Maqsud district is in imminent danger of re-newed jihadi attack)We will see.

Ronald

Take them out , a convoy rolled through Idlib last night , stopped 50 km from the Tiger Forces . The Kurds threat was just a ploy , Erdogan is claiming Idlib and saving his jihadists .

Graeme Rymill

Presumably this is one of the observation posts permitted Turkey under the Astana agreement.

“It is believed that Turkey will establish a total 14 observation spots inside Syria with the participation of around 500 troops.” http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkish-army-sets-up-first-observation-post-in-idlib-121158

“500 troops” – that surely must be 500 troops per observation post. The number of Turkish vehicles heading to Al-Eis support this conclusion.

HTS (formerly Jabhat Fateh al-Sham plus other Salafist jihadist groups and before that Jabhat Fateh al-Sham was al-Nusra Front – also known as or Jabhat al-Nusra) is specifically excluded from the Astana cease-fire. “It is to be stressed that signing of the Memorandum on creation of the de-escalation zones in the Syrian Arab Republic does not stop fighting against terrorists of the ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra in Syria.” http://eng.mil.ru/en/news_page/country/more.htm?id=12121964@egNews

If HTS isn’t a party to the Astana agreements why does HTS permit Turkey to travel freely through HTS held territory so that Turkey can set up observation posts? Is there an understanding that Turkey will help HTS block any future SAA advances in idlib?

abuqahwa

Simple answer to your question is yes – Turkey has from the start aided, abetted, assisted, promoted multitude of jihadi terrorist gangs including Nusra Front/HTS – most of so-called FSA are just re-badged jihadi thugs from various factions re-deployed from northern Rif Halab/Aleppo. Turkish forces have now invaded Syria from Reyhanli and advanced to within 4 000 meters of the western defense lines of Aleppo. Wake up and look at the map !!

mhtsaropinigitakis

no note that russia bombed the bridges and roads ahead of that turkish convoy to stop them…and indeed they stopped them…next time they will bomb the turks

leon mc pilibin

WTF are they doing amongst the terrorists? The SAA will soon be arriving to take out all the terrorists so what then? Are the Turks losing their minds,,or are they seriously thinking of taking on everyone?

Astar Roth

Misinformation. During technical failures and explosion of some vehicle, they were forced to turn back.

Claudio

Turkish friends who worry about the integrity of Syria….pieces of shit !!

Mountains

Al-Eis

Sakaramanga

One cant but wonder, will Turkey join forces with Assad or have another agenda.

Xanatos

Al Eis is practically right on the frontline with SAA. This is after another Turkish observer convoy was sent directly North of al duhur.

Does turkey think they can cut off all further offensives by the SAA by standing on the frontlines?

I doubt the partition of idlib agreement gave turkey this much land. Turkey is proving to Putin it cannot be trusted.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Both ended up leaving the area as one was a scout operation as a prelude to the attack by HTS, since HTS members were part of the 6 vehicle convoy. Turkey is getting to overtly blatant now it seems them and the US are getting careless in their ambitious plans.

John Whitehot

“The establishment of the Turkish observation post in southern Aleppo is likely aimed at preventing the Syrian Arab Army from further advances on positions of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in the area”

Yeah sure. They could always try to prevent the SAA to advance against ragheaded scum with an observation post.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

The establishment of the OP at Tal al Eis was refused by Damascus as it was on the frontlines and during which time the convoy was having mechanical and electrical issues in which the fuel tanks exploded forcing the convoy to turn back.

Astar Roth

Misinformation. They’re all back.
