Turkish Troops Deployed At Key Western Aleppo Town – Reports

Support SouthFront

On February 14, the Turkish military stepped up its presence around the key town of al-Atarib in the western Aleppo countryside.

Local sources claimed that armored vehicles and commando units of the Turkish Armed Forces were deployed in the town’s center. The sources released videos showing Turkish troops in the vicinity of the town.

While the reports on Turkish deployment in al-Atarib are yet to be verified, it was confirmed that an “observation post” was established north of the town, near the village of Kafr Karmin.

A day earlier, Turkish forces established a post near the town of al-Jeineh in the western Aleppo countryside. The town is located less than 3 km to the west of al-Atarib.

Al-Atarib, one of the biggest urban centers in western Aleppo, could be the next target of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA). Army units are now situated 4 km to the south of the town.

By establishing posts around al-Atarib and possibly deploying troops inside of it, the Turkish military is clearly trying to keep the SAA away from the town. A similar plan failed to prevent the army from liberating the city of Saraqib in southeast Idlib earlier this month.

When at first you don’t succeed, fail miserably as many times as possible.

Tim Williams

this is not unexpected … The TURKS ” MUST ” remove themselves from their observation posts in SAA area now per the SOCHI accords … The Turks are now running helter skelter to set up new posts in rat areas … While drones fly overhead mapping their exact grid coordinates for the SAA forces.

if nobody loses their head then the stage is set for Sochi 2.0, minus HTS

Yes, such Western omission is sometimes more damaging that the infantile lies that we have witnessed .

It’s likely that even the Turks are not doing it.

Atarib is close enough to their border and supply line and cross border artillery to do at least some serious armwrestling with the saa, until now there has not been a large scale direct confrontation between the turks and the saa, always there were the proxy jihadist with turkish equipment and some remote artillery backup, question is will assad and putin deem worth it or open up another front in north aleppo or along the m4 highway?

MRAPs are great when you’re fighting peasants armed with stones. They’re pretty shit when the peasants have anything more than an RPG. 30mm goes straight through. The South Africans and Rhodesians were the first to deploy them – in low-intensity bush war where they were appropriate. The Americans, on the other hand, give MRAPs to their fire departments. I hope the Turks are basking in their false sense of security.

John Wallace

The Rhodesian ones were just converted trucks with slanted plate for mine protection which worked pretty well. Most of the stuff was home made because of sanctions. I think they did get some uni mogs from somewhere at one stage. The terrs only had light weapons and either a motar or RPG . They weren’t that good shooting at stationary targets let alone moving ones..

Pave Way IV

Notice anything mostly missing from those long Turkish convoys? Where are all the fuel trucks to refill those diesel hogs? I’ve seen a few (very few) tankers scattered among the convoys, but not nearly enough to possibly keep them running for any length of time. The Idlib head-choppers were complaining that they couldn’t even get a few liters of petrol locally for their little portable generators. There’s no way they’re going to find a couple of barrels each to refill those old APCs and tanks.

This is mostly old junk that Turkey has already replaced with more modern armor. Have to wonder if this is just Turkey’s desperate attempt to appear to support the head-choppers – mostly so they don’t come back to Turkey after being defeated and looking for revenge. One tank of fuel is only going to prolong the head-chopper annihilation by a week or two, and that’s if the head-choppers don’t just siphon it off for themselves.

AM Hants

Why would Erdogan wish to look after the -‘organ eating head choppers’. Be in his interests if they wiped themselves out, whilst Erdogan tells his people, he is trying to help them.

The good thing about the lack of Turkish oil tankers, is the fact they cannot arrive empty and leave full.

Pave Way IV

He’s not looking after them at all – he’s trying to dissuade them from abandoning the futile battle for Idlib and retreating back into Turkey. He hopes they get slaughtered, but that’s only going to happen if they are motivated to stay in Syria and continue to fight.

The head-choppers have to be at least a little impressed by the toys – as useless as they are. It gives the appearance of real Turkish support rather than just paychecks and small arms ammo. Maybe the head-choppers will be satisfied by the gifts of new armor. On the other hand, maybe they’ll just look at the online maps and decide that it’s time for a prolonged tactical retreat back to Turkey. That armor might come in handy for rushing a Turkish border crossing. If they only had enough fuel to get there…

AM Hants

If they have enough fuel. Hopefully not.

Joe Doe

Atarib is very strategic town for SAA. SAA will be very short distance to cut Turkey and militans supply route SAA could do in another planing offensive. After taking over Atarib, SAA should go north and East, to create and close the packet, west of Aleppo. Than close the packet south of M4

What I want to know is what are the Kurds in Syria and Northern Iraq waiting for… Now is the best time to attack their mongoloid genocide prone oppressors, the turks, and gain their independence… If they were to fight alongside the Syrian army they d surely gain at least autonomy in Syria, Assad is a fair man!

Tim Williams

Syria has been feeding weapons to the KURDS

©igare☘☘e?Sm⚽️k?ng?Man️?

Good good, I m sure by now they got a variety of weapons the Kurds… abouttime they use them on the right targets the turgays and give them hell!

Kananda

the kurds are the same shit as arab soldiers. big mouth little acts. in turkia they never were succesful. in iraq only with unudad estados help.

Lazy Gamer

That is what i have also been thinking about. But isnt the Kurd agreement a different agreement by Russia and Turkey? This can be an avenue for escalation.

talk of joint SAA & YPG action against the TURK forces if the cease fire kicks in IDLIB

Willing Conscience (The Truths

“By establishing posts around al-Atarib and possibly deploying troops inside of it, the Turkish military is clearly trying to keep the SAA away from the town. A similar plan failed to prevent the army from liberating the city of Saraqib in southeast Idlib earlier this month.”

But the Turks are now deployed in the town so liberating it with the Turks already stationed there will be impossible, well that’s not entirely correct, it is actually possible to liberate the town but we’ll have to kill the Turks to do it, and after what Erdogan’s threatened to do if we kill any more Turks, we all know what that could mean, all out war.

Mustafa Mehmet

Let it be all out war finish it once for all. And whatever will be will be.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

If I thought we could win it I’d agree with you, but I’m not sure we can.
