The Turkish armed forces said in a written statement that on Friday, the Turkish air force launched airstrikes at the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) targets in northern Iraq.

According to the statement, the airstrikes came as the response to the attack by the militant group against a police vehicle in Diyarbakir on Thursday.

On Thursday, seven police officers were killed and 27 others injured in car bomb attack on armored police vehicle in Diyarbakir of Turkey.

The statement also added that 12 Turkish jets including F-16 conducted 2 operations to destroy PKK targets in the Zap region of northern Iraq.

Since the truce broke off in July 2015, 300 fighters of the Turkish security forces were killed. According to the Turkish General Staff, the Turkish military killed more than a thousand Kurdish fighters.

However, the Kurdish sources argue that hundreds of civilians were killed during the Turkish military operation against Kurdish militias.

The Turkish government has recently been engaged in an intensified crackdown on the country’s Kurdish population in the southeast, since then violence has increased in Turkey. The country also has been carrying out airstrikes against Kurdish positions in Iraq and Syria.
