The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan claimed on October 29 that its Air Defense Force had shot down two Su-25 warplanes of the Armenian Air Force over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
“At about 13:18 and 13:20, two Su-25 attack aircrafts of the Armenian armed forces that attempted to inflict airstrikes on the positions of the Azerbaijan Army in the Gubadli direction of the front were shot down by Azerbaijan Air Defense Units,” the ministry said in an official statement.
The Azerbaijani MoD didn’t provide any further details on the matter. No photos or videos confirming these claims were released by the ministry.
Shushan Stepanyan, Press Secretary for the Ministry of Defense of Armenian, denied that any Armenian warplane was shot down, calling the Azerbaijani claims “false information.”
On September 29, the Armenian Air Force lost a Su-25 that was allegedly shot down by an F-16 fighter jet of the Turkish Air Force. On October 17 and 18, the Azerbaijani MoD claimed that two additional Su-25s were shot down. However, these claims were false.
From its side, the Armenian MoD claimed that two Su-25 of the Azerbaijani Air Force were shot down on October 12 and 14. These claims were also untrue.
Both Armenia and Azerbaijan have been exaggerating the human and material losses of each other since the outbreak of the battle in Nagorno-Karabakh on September 27.
