Two attacks have reportedly targeted U.S. bases in northeastern Syria, where American troops are occupying all gas and oil fields.

Early on July 11, several explosions were heard at a US base in the CONICO gas factory in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

The U.S.-led coalition and its main proxy in northeastern Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), ignored the incident. However, a U.S. defense official confirmed a few hours later that there was an “indirect fire attack” on the U.S. base.

The unnamed official said that the attack hadn’t result in fatalities, injures or structural damage, according to Reuters correspondent Idrees Ali.

Less than 12 hours later, explosions were heard at the U.S. main base in the al-Omar oil fields in the southeastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

Several sources, including the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said that a rocket had hit the base. The alleged attack took place as the U.S.-led coalition and the SDF were holding a joint training at the base.

Heavy white smoke was seen raising from inside the base. The U.S.-led coalition and the SDF are yet to comment on the incident.

U.S. bases in northeastern Syria have come under attack on several occasions over the last few weeks. On June 28, a barrage of 32 rockets hit the U.S. main base in the al-Omar oil fields. On July 4, explosions were reported near the CONICO gas plant. On July 7, a drone attack targeted one of the U.S. bases in the fields.

Iranian-backed forces deployed in the Syrian government-held part of Deir Ezzor were reportedly behind all recent attacks on U.S. bases in al-Omar and CONICO.
